They are accepted by the <strong>American</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Prosthodontics and as such are a necessary teachingtool in prosthodontic training programs and dental school curricula. They are meant to emphasize theimportance <strong>of</strong> the Prosthodontic Diagnostic Index in teaching, in diagnosis, and treatment planning forthe prosthodontist and general practitioner, and are to be used in patient presentations and lectures.They also provide guidelines for daily use in communication with dental insurance companies and inthe evaluation <strong>of</strong> the procedural requirements <strong>of</strong> the standard <strong>of</strong> care. This document provides thefoundation <strong>of</strong> the concept that prosthodontics is a specialty based on diagnosis <strong>of</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> difficultyinstead <strong>of</strong> individual tooth technique.
