Part 1 <strong>Strategy</strong>123. To provide <strong>Aireys</strong> <strong>Inlet</strong>with recreationalinfrastructure which:–– provides for a range ofsocial/ family recreation andenvironmental activities–– meets the needs of foundationand participation sport, andphysical education and exercise–– is fit for purpose–– doesn’t require significant additionalurban infrastructure to support–– provides <strong>Aireys</strong> <strong>Inlet</strong> with a point ofdifference from neighbouring towns–– doesn’t impact substantially onlocal or environmental character–– supports the development ofviable local sports clubs–– is relatively cost effective to maintain4. To maximise the ability of localorganisations and user groupsto share facilities, and workin partnership with Counciland locally based serviceproviders to provide and managerecreation infrastructure andservices in <strong>Aireys</strong> <strong>Inlet</strong>.Objectives for changeThe objectives for change are:Toprovide a recreation reservein <strong>Aireys</strong> <strong>Inlet</strong> to a serve localcricket, junior football and soccercompetition and training, schooluse and social/ family recreation1. To provide community basedindoor gym and group fitnessfacilities in <strong>Aireys</strong> <strong>Inlet</strong>2. Provide a one full sizedindoor sports court in <strong>Aireys</strong><strong>Inlet</strong> to provide for thesports of netball, basketball,indoor tennis and futsal3. To continue to develop anetwork of shared paths forcycling, walking and wheeling4. To utilise the Gilbert Streetand Boundary Road site forrelaxation, leisure and exercise,in keeping with opportunitiesto provide environmentalappreciation/ education andconserve biological heritageThe nature of each facility and thepreferred option for developmentis outlined in Chapter 4.
