Ashas already been noted Henry Howe Connor's birthplace is given in his deathcertificate as Canterbury which is in Kent, England.As to the surname Connor, Ewen's Hist, <strong>of</strong> the Surnames <strong>of</strong> Great Britain(1931 p. 212) says families moving from Ireland to England usually dropped theO <strong>of</strong> O'Connor. In Ireland the name O'Connor is traced (Connaught descendants)to Coniar <strong>of</strong> Conchobhair, an early Irian chief. (Irish Pedigrees by John O'Hart1887 Vol. 1. p. 633) Both <strong>of</strong> these references were seen by the compiler in theReading Room <strong>of</strong> the British Museum.After the Civil War period, Henry and Miriam Connor lived in Fentonville,Genesee Co. Mich, where Henry had made his enlistment. It was here thefour younger children were born. However for shorter periods the family alsoresided in Holly and in Owosso. The children in this family, having such avery blond father and a very dark complexioned mother were <strong>of</strong> such variedcolorings that notation <strong>of</strong> this was made by one <strong>of</strong> the children. William hadblack eyes and hair; Henrietta had blue eyes and was a blond; Charles had exceptionallyblue eyes and brown hair; Marion had deep blue eyes, black hair anda very white skin; Margaret (Madge) had gray eyes and dark hair; Thomashad dark eyes and dark hair; Edward had biue eyes and dark hair and the youngest,Fletcher had blue eyes and sandy hair.William Henry Connor was born 3 July 1851 in Bowmanville, Ontario,Canada. He died 23 Jan. 1928 in Detroit, his home for many years. His wifewas Celia Hollister born in Vermont 27 May 1848 a daughter <strong>of</strong> DorastusHollister <strong>of</strong> Rose Center, Michigan. She died in July 1932. They had one sonnamed Welcome Y. Connor who later called himself William, and who was bornat Rose Corners and died about 1935 on Long Island. His first wife was MargaretShearer; his 2nd --- and his 3rd Florence Dean Jones. He had no children.William and Celia Connor also had an adopted child, Cora Margaret daughter<strong>of</strong> the Rev. Bloomfield and Emily Harmon. She married Alan Nelson and hadfour children, William Allen, Stamford, Elsena Margaret and Sarah CeliaNelson.Henrietta Connor was born 5 Sept. 1853 in Bowmanville, Ontario and wasbaptized there in the Church <strong>of</strong> England. She married (1) Robert Harris(2) George Graham <strong>of</strong> Owosso, Michigan. Their daughter Helen Graham marriedDon Hartzell; they had no children.Marion Rachel Elizabeth Connor was born 18 Aug. 1861/2. She married inManistique, Michigan, <strong>Chester</strong> E. <strong>Howell</strong> and soon removed to Elmira, N. Y.Their children (1) Jessie E. married Frank Clifford Finch, residences havebeen in Kansas City, Mo. , Glen Ellyn, 111. , Bethesda, Md. , Alexandria, Va. ,& Wiesbaden, Germany. (2) Edith Louese <strong>Howell</strong> married James Edwin Rileyres. in Montpelier, Vt. , New Haven & Madison, Ct. (3) <strong>Everts</strong> Howe <strong>Howell</strong>married Gladys M. Shaw, lives in Elraira (4) <strong>Chester</strong> E. <strong>Howell</strong> Jr. marriedIsabel Lowman and lives in Elmira, N. Y. Marion Connor <strong>Howell</strong> died May1951 and <strong>Chester</strong> <strong>Howell</strong> Sr. April 1949 both in Elmira. See the <strong>Howell</strong> accountfor their descendants.98
