Old maps show what the route <strong>of</strong> their trip must have been. From Salisbury(in western Connecticut east <strong>of</strong> Kingston, N. Y. ) across the Hudson River andalong the Delaware turnpike to its junction with the Newburgh and Chenangotrail until at the place where Oxford now is, the so-called Military turnpikewas reached; on this through present Ithaca to the site <strong>of</strong> the old Indian town <strong>of</strong>Catharine, now Montour Falls. This place at the head <strong>of</strong> Seneca Lake musthave seemed near to their final destination at Peach Orchard. Even today onecan follow part <strong>of</strong> this old route between Ithaca and Montour Falls.Coming in 1794 from Salisbury to the town <strong>of</strong> Hector in the <strong>Everts</strong> groupwere Daniel and Molly <strong>Everts</strong>, the parents; Molly's 19 year old daughter,Clarissa Redfield; the four <strong>Everts</strong> sons: Aranthes about 12, Charles 11,Daniel Jr. , 6 and John aged just over 1 year, and their sister 3 year old Polly.The daughter Asenath who later married Jeremiah <strong>Howell</strong> was born in 1795"the first white female born in the town <strong>of</strong> Hector" quoting the entry after hername in her grandson's bible.This bible record <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong> Daniel <strong>Everts</strong> was copied into the bible<strong>of</strong> his grandson Sidney E. <strong>Howell</strong> <strong>of</strong> Painted Post, N. Y. In 1950 this copy inthe grandson's Bible was compared with the original (then owned by Harry<strong>Everts</strong> <strong>of</strong> Watkins) and the two were found not to vary in any record:"Daniel <strong>Everts</strong> son <strong>of</strong> John and Submit <strong>Everts</strong> was born Jan. 23, 1749 andwas married to Charity Van Dusen Sept. 9, 1767.Charity <strong>Everts</strong> was born Feb. 8, 1769 and^my wife Charity died Feb. 11,J769.Molly Hurd was born Oct. 7th, 1754 and was married to Nathaniel Redfieldin 1774. He died 1776. Clarissa Redfield was born March 19, 1775. Clarissadied July 12, 1812.I married Molly the widow <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel Redfield Nov. 8th, 1780. She diedFeb. 27th, 1817.My son Aranthes was born May 24th, 1782Charles was born Sept. 18th, 1783Olive was born July 29, 1786 and died March 26th, 1788Daniel was born August 8th, 1788 and died Sept. 29th, 1827Polly was born Feb. 14th, 1791John was born Feb. 24th, 1793Asenath was born Sept. 10th, 1795Abraham Hurd was born Jan. 19th, 1799May 23rd, 1819 I was married to Abigail Hotchkiss(below is in a different handwriting)"Daniel <strong>Everts</strong> Sr. died Dec. 18th, 1833Abigail the wife <strong>of</strong> D. <strong>Everts</strong> Esq. died June 13, 1831aged 62 years less 25 daysJohn <strong>Everts</strong> died Dec. 24, 1849Charles <strong>Everts</strong> died Jan. 15th, 1854Abraham H. <strong>Everts</strong> died July 28, 1866Polly died July 2, I860Aranthes died (blank)"In a plot on his own land Daniel <strong>Everts</strong> was buried. The place is on theSeneca Lake side <strong>of</strong> the road a mile and a half south <strong>of</strong> the Peach Orchard41
