They show Chemung and Steuben CountyBen<strong>net</strong>t relationships as follows:Jacob Ben<strong>net</strong>t, son <strong>of</strong> Abraham and Jerusha, was born 3 June 1772 and died7 December 1851. He was born in New Jersey (by tradition) and came fromOrange Co. N. Y. to be an early settler <strong>of</strong> Howard, Steuben Co. N. Y. where hewas buried. An account in one <strong>of</strong> the County histories and the Hannah Breedrecords agree that he had three wives but Hannah Mapes 1 name is not mentionedin the historical account, which gives (1) Julia Benjamin (2) Thankful Baker(3) Charlotte Getchell who was buried next to him. His will and the Surrogatepapers with it name 16 children, agreeing with the family records. The orderin which the names <strong>of</strong> the children are given on the next page is that in theHannah Breed data, as well as the names <strong>of</strong> the spouses and the number <strong>of</strong> each25
