It is recommended that you leanagainst something firm (table, wall) forstabilisation.4.Now step into the rigid stand. Please checkthat the toe and the heel are correctlypositioned.5.By alternately pulling and releasing the twohandles you can now slide the stocking uptowards your knee .6.When the stocking is just below the kneetilt the medi butler slightly backwards andremove it from the stocking.7.To finish, smooth the compression stockingupwards evenly. Make sure …… that there are no creases or wrinkles • since these will chafe the skin and act like an elastic band, causing fluid to build up below.… that the sleeve is not too tight. It should feel firm and supportive, but should not be painful or make the fingers turn purple or blue.… that the sleeve is not too loose or baggy, especially nearer the hand, otherwise it will not do its job. If the sleeve is loose at thehand but fits the rest of the arm well, you will need to insert a pad between the sleeve and the back of the hand. A small piece offoam rubber is the ideal; cotton-wool pads do not work well. An additional mitten may be applied beneath the combined armsleeveThe tops of the sleeves should never be rolled over as this can act like an elastic band, causing fluid to build up lower down. If thesleeves seem too long just ease excess material evenly down the limb until the length is right. The use of talcum powder on the skinwillassist with fitting these sleeves, particularly after the limb has been washed. Some patients will experience mild discomfortduring the first 24 hours. However, this is almost always transient. Skin hygiene is important. The use of creams and lotions isnot contraindicated as the fabric of these products is resistant. Armsleeves and mittens may be removed when retiring to bed atnight unless the doctor/therapist has advised otherwise. Then push thearmsleevedown evenly over theframe using both hands.3.Check that the armsleeve fitsproperly. The knitting marks at theelbow should be facing the wearer.4.How push your hand into theopening.
