Hosiery & LymphologyPressure Therapy Management of Burns, Scars, Lymphoedema and Vascular Disease1The role of compression therapy in.....Burns and Scar managementTo achieve the optimum aesthetic and functional outcome in order toimprove a patients quality of life. The use of external pressure applied bymeans of pressure garments is well documented and widely accepted asone of the best, non-invasive means of preventing and controlling problemscarring, including hypertrophic and keloid scars. Pressure garmentsshould provide the necessary characteristics to be both clinically effectiveand comfortable to wear. Our garments are tight fitting and made fromelastic fabric containing lycra, designed to exert pressure over the scararea whilst allowing full functional movement. Garments are manufacturedusing a multi-directional stretch fabric provided by its modulus (tensilestrength at a given point). This is controlled by the hexagon shapeconstruction which provides continuous compression contouring thebody without restricting movement. The standard measure of pressure,or manometric unit used to calculate compression in a garment is mmHg(millimetre of mercury) and is equivalent to the amount of pressureexerted at the base of a column of liquid mercury of the given height.Medical compression garments are made using a modulus recommendedfor medical garments according to diagnosis.Lymphoedema and Vascular DiseaseGradient pressureThe role of compression is essential in the treatment of lymphoedema andis an important element in the long term care of primary or secondarylymphoedema of the leg, arm, hand or other parts of the body.Compression hosiery reduces new lymph formation and improves lymphdrainage by improving muscle pump action. A correctly fitting garmentdelivering the recommended compression level encourages the lymphto redistribute and drain, and also provides support allowing the musclesto pump fluid away mwore effectively and work more efficiently. Gradientcustom garments provide the ultimate in compression therapy for the longterm management of vascular and lymphoedema conditions.2345678910Postsurgical GarmentsOptimum benefitJobskin offer a line of compression garments for oedema managementand postsurgical applications.
