Section 1: Getting Started 7I like ...Have people sitting in a circle. One person begins by saying his or her name andfavourite food. For example, "I'm Sasha and I like bananas". The next person repeatswhat has been said and then adds their name and food. The third person then has toremember the previous two people's name and their favourite food before adding theirname and favourite food. And so it goes on until the last person (a tutor) has to recalleveryone's name and favourite food.Soul-matesHave people think of three things, for example their favourite food; favourite name for agirl; favourite song. They then have to go round the rest of the group trying to findsomeone who likes the same three things as they do.Catch my nameHave the group sitting in a circle and pass round a ball. As people take it they say theirname loudly for all to hear. When this is done, the rule changes; people then throw theball to another person. The person catching it has to say the name of the thrower. If theycannot remember they have to find out the person's name before they throw the ball tosomeone else. Once again, that person has to say the name of the thrower. The gamecontinues until everyone's name is known.Your number's upWith the group sitting in a large circle, number them from one to five; then start again atone and carry on until everyone has a number except one or two people. They go intothe middle. The tutor calls out one number and those people have to change seats. Asthey do, the people in the middle try to find a seat and they then become that number.The game continues until everyone is well warmed-up!Name bingoThis is a great game to get people up and moving around, talking to each other. Giveeveryone a sheet of paper and pen on which are drawn nine squares (three by three).People have to collect the autographs of nine people in the room (one per square) and asthey do, find out a little about them. When everyone has filled their squares; the tutorthen calls out the names of people in the group. If people have that name in one of theirsquares, they mark it off. The winner is the first person who has the names of threepeople in a row or column. They have to introduce the three people to the rest of thegroup.Person BingoThis is a variation of Name Bingo and works on the same principles of bingo withnumbers, so the instructions are easy, for example “Find a person in the group to matcheach one of the squares below, and then yell bingo! Use only one name per square, andtry and use each name only once”.
