REGIS TODAY
her Ed.M in elementary and special
education from Rivier College in
Nashua in May. ¶ We haven’t heard
from Marie De Montigny Murray in a
long time. But no wonder: she, her
husband, and their 5 children have
been living in France, Germany, and
Spain for many years but now are
back in the States. What a wonderful
opportunity they have had to learn
different customs and languages! We
hope Mary can join us at a future
class meeting. ¶ And speaking of class
meetings, Cay is arranging for us to
get together on Thursday, Sept. 23, at
the Student Union on campus. We all
will be getting a letter soon concerning
this. We hope as many of us as
possible will attend. At this time of
our life we should seize every opportunity
to enjoy life and be thankful for
our blessings. ¶ Jackie, Alfreda, and
I continue to be class correspondents,
because nobody else volunteered, but
we need your help to fill this space.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch
with us at the addresses at the top of
these notes. We need your input.
60th Reunion Class
✒ Marie Barbano Tassinari, 2 Bellevue
Road, Arlington, MA 02476 ¶ The
day was a glorious one, sitting at
Lighthouse Beach in Chatham waiting
a sighting of the great white
sharks who were threatening the
Cape shores and the innocent seals.
A light breeze, bright blue sky with
puffy white clouds, and a calm sea!
All this put me into a reflective mood.
Then it came, not the sharks but
the reality that my copy for Regis
Today was due. Now this is reality.
So here I am again. ¶ For the past
4 years it has been my task to bring
you a glimpse into the lives of some
of our classmates. Perhaps this is the
time to apologize that too few of you
have made these pages. Forgive me;
my successor will surely do a better
job. ¶ Nonetheless, we have heard of
the lives of some of our classmates.
You have read of their joys and even
sadness, and followed their delightful
years with their beloved spouses,
their pride as mothers and now
as grandmothers. We have taken
note of the achievements of those
who pursued careers as well as our
classmates who toil for the Lord. ¶
In looking back we ’51ers have led
varied and interesting lives as well
as productive ones in our families
and workplaces, and in the society
in which we live. We ’51ers have left
our mark! Who would have known
back in those Regis days what would
have become of that “class full of fun”!
¶ I told you earlier that beach scene
made me reflective—a look now at
the present. Ann Brown Janes, we are
happy to report, has survived a near
drowning. Ann, do take care. We need
our class historian. ¶ Margie Linney
Carroll, although fighting a serious illness,
did take her trip to the Passion
Play in Oberammagau and enjoyed
it immensely. But she did return
to flood conditions at her Lakeville
summer home. Margie continues all
of her activities, grateful she can
still do so. ¶ Our class baby, Barbara
Coolen Corrado, recently celebrated
her birthday with her family, who
helped blow out all 80 candles. I
presume most of us had that experience
this year. Actually, being 80
isn’t that bad at all. Maybe! ¶ The
Boston area group attended the Tower
Luncheon at Regis. It is an event not
to be missed. The gals attending were
Ann Downey Tierney (recovering from
back surgery), Barbara Phair McCarthy,
Florence Kelly McKenna, Ann Brown
Janes, Barbara Palmer Schlichte, Pat
Chisholm, Joan Williamson Horsman,
and Janice McBride Power. ¶ Our class
president, Janice McBride Power,
presided over a class meeting; the
main matter of business was our
60th Reunion. You read it correctly,
our 60th. Please pay special attention
to future communications from
the college containing important
information about the college, a new
president, and Reunion plans. Save
the date, May 2011. ¶ This last report
would be sorely incomplete without
kudos to Mary Lee McLaughlin Girouard
for her successful endeavors as our
Class Fund Representative. No easy
task! This year she continued to
perform her job above and beyond—
even through Armand’s illness. Mary
Lee, you are a wonder! Let us ’51ers
continue our support of Regis and
put a large smile on Mary Lee’s face,
especially in our Reunion year. A
special thanks to Mary Lee from this
class reporter for all your assistance—
my dear ghostwriter. ¶ Living to be 80
years old has taught us many lessons.
We learned life can be beautiful, but
not at all times or for all of us. Surely
we have felt the threat of the great
white shark. However, at the present
time too many of our classmates and
their families are actually experiencing
the sting of the shark in the form
of serious illness. I ask you sincerely
to tuck these old Regis friends into
your daily prayers. ¶ Thank you all
for being you, the Regis Class of 1951.
I look forward to seeing many of you
at our 60th Reunion, May 2011.
617-479-0339 ¶ It is with joy that I
report good news concerning a very
special member of our class, Sister
Mary Hart of the Sisters of Good
Shepherd. Sister received an honorary
degree at the 2010 Boston College
graduation. Tribute was paid to her
for how she has “lived her life.” Mary
worked for some years in an afterschool
program for disadvantaged
youths and dedicated her life to these
young people, whom she considers
her family. She is serving at St.
Katherine Drexel Parish in West
Roxbury. Mary also received an award
in Nov. 2009 from Cardinal Sean
O’Malley for her leadership in the
African-American community. This
award was given in recognition of
the after-school program she started
and for her dedication to education
in the black Catholic community.
Mary, we are proud to have you as a
special member of our class. When
I talked with Mary, she was looking
forward to a vacation at Seabrook,
NH, with her family. She planned
to drive to Hampton Beach to spend
some time with Mary Foley Noon and
Patricia Hogan Hogan. ¶ I spoke with
Sally Finnerty Tully in PA. She spends
about 3 days each week helping her
daughter, Beth, with her three children.
Beth lives in upstate NY, but
Sally happily makes the trip. ¶ We
had a wonderful time at the Golden
Tower Luncheon in May. About 14
classmates showed up. However, I
lost the list of names. Forgive me.
Patricia Donovan Bondelevitch sat
next to me, so I know that she was
there looking especially well. She
is happy with her new home in NH
and is now a serious gardener. Well,
maybe not too serious. It was fun to
share some laughs and memories with
her. ¶ A class meeting was held after
the luncheon. The raffle prize, won
by Jill McKearin Paredes, was a lovely
painting done by Antoinette Navarro
Campbell. The 2011 raffle will be for a
fleece Red Sox throw donated by Marie
Fleming Sisk. ¶ Marie Rizzo called and
is serving on the Board of Morality in
the Media. Her sister Rita is president.
They work on violence in the
media and its effects on family values.
Marie was enthused about a dinner
run in June 2010 where they had 3
speakers, including the sheriff from
her area. Marie keeps in touch with
Antoinette Navarro Campbell, who
devotes much of her time to her twin
grandchildren, who are no longer at
Perkins School for the Blind and are
now doing well at Bunker Community
College. Antoinette is very proud
of the girls. It is very motivating
to talk to members of our class. ¶ I
reached Jill McKearin Paredes, who
was enthusiastic about a meeting
in May cosponsored by the Scituate
and Weymouth Voice of the Faithful.
The speaker was James Carroll, who
educated more than 200 people with
his talk on Vatican II, which Jill said
was inspiring. He also referenced
