please, when you’re cleaning out your
attics and cellars, don’t throw away
anything that we could put on display.
Save that old freshman beanie and
the maroon gym suit and anything
else you think we could use. In addition,
plan to come to our Oct. class
Reunion dinner. It’s always wonderful
to see old friends, and it’s a special
treat when one of our classmates
comes for the first time in decades—
or the first time ever!! Our class has
evolved into a wonderfully caring,
compassionate, supportive group of
women, and you’ll be welcomed not
because you’ve achieved importance
or fame or wealth, but because you’re
one of our own. Hope to see you there!
of about 12 from our class at the Cape
Luncheon. The big news is that Kathi
McCaffrey Ford was the winner of the
raffle of the original work of art by our
classmate and world-renowned artist
Carol Jewell Hunt. Kathi was ecstatic!
Thank you, Carol, for your very
generous donation of Lotus 5. Also
want to thank Barbara Doran Sullivan
and Marie Shatos for all their efforts
selling the raffle tickets at the event.
The raffle brought in an additional
$2,000 towards our 50th Reunion
class gift. The Regis College Class of
1965 Fund was started at our 40th
Reunion to fund our 50th Reunion gift
to Regis. There are only 5 years left!
Donations to the Regis College Class
of 1965 Fund can be sent to Carole
Groncki McCarthy at 151 Flint Locke
Drive, Duxbury, MA 02332. ¶ A fabulous
time was had by all at our 45th
Reunion this past May. The Friday
night dinner was well attended, with
about 30 of our classmates gathered
in the faculty dining room at Alumnae
Hall. Mary Lou Burke Stewart was a
welcome sight for those of us who
have not seen her for a while. Janet
White Case will be moving to VA this
fall ,so we will miss her at our Boston
gatherings, but she hopes to make
contact with classmates in the DC
area. Saturday of the Reunion was
a very special day for our class, with
over 40 classmates attending some or
all of the events. In the morning the
2nd annual Barbara Kelleher Hyland
(BKH) lecture was given in the Foyer
by Dr. Carol Hardy-Fanta, Director
of the Center for Women in Politics
and Public Policy at UMass Boston’s
graduate school. Joanne Massey Howes
gave a beautiful tribute to Barbara,
including a video put together by
Patricia McCarthy Jacquart and others
that introduced the program.
After the lecture, we all joined the
Parade of Classes into the Alumni
Luncheon with our special roses
provided by the Reunion committee.
At the luncheon our class was
honored for giving the 3rd largest
class gift to the college from the
Reunion classes, $34,365, just $2,000
shy of 2nd place. Our class meeting
included a talk by Naomie Lebon,
first recipient of the BKH internship
scholarship. She told us about
her internship program at American
University, including her travels to
Syria, Egypt, and Jordan. Also at the
alumni luncheon, Joanne Massey
Howes was presented with the 2009
Regis College Excellence Award for
her leadership in establishing the
BKH Internship Program and Lecture
series at Regis. Donations to the BKH
Internship and Lecture Series can be
sent to Regis College; designate the
gift for the BKH Program. ¶ Class
officers were elected: President, Kathy
Moynihan McGovern; Vice President,
Joanne Massey Howes; Secretary, Pat
Gaumond Kasierski; Treasurer, Mary
Ellen Lavenberg; Class Reporters,
Kathi McCaffrey Ford and Joanne
Massey Howes, Fund Agent, Carole
Groncki McCarthy. Congratulations
to all and thank you for all you do
for the Class of 1965. ¶ Saturday
night of Reunion included a fantastic
clambake and band under a tent at
Norman Tower. Barbara Milner Elwood
and Lisa Brown Kane danced up a
storm with the waitstaff, rumored to
be students at Regis, male students
at that! The lobsters were great and
the music terrific. All of us who where
there are looking forward to the same
event at our 50th and hope more of
our class can join in the fun. Special
thanks to the Reunion committee,
Pat Gaumond Kasierski, Deirdre
Casey, Sharon Gibbons Reardon, Mel
Lavenberg, Anne Marie Fontaine
Healey for a job well done! ¶ Our condolences
go out to Pam Dubzinski Bent
on the loss of her mom, and to Mary
Louise Howe Gleason on the loss of
her mother-in-law. Our thoughts and
prayers are with you. ¶ Other news:
Congratulations to Kathy Moynihan
McGovern for not only being elected
President of our class but also
being elected to the Regis Alumni
Association Board of Directors. Carole
Groncki McCarthy and Sally Daily
Buckler will be getting together in
Maryland this fall with Judy Fallon
Niner and, we hope, others from our
class. Anne Marie Fontaine Healey
and Kathy Henighan had a great trip
to northern India in Feb. Anne Marie
is a superb photographer, and Kathy
has a memory for all the details of
the trip, so the two together had a
great travel adventure that they
shared at Reunion. There is a cruise
to Bermuda from Boston in May
2011, sponsored by the Regis College
Alumni Association. It looks like we
may have a large contingent from our
class going. Check it out on the Regis
website and sign up early. It should
be a fun cruise! ¶ Lunch at Isaac’s
Restaurant in Plymouth, MA, on
Sept. 14 was great. We had a chance
to catch up again and get an update
on our 50th Reunion gift.
it when classmates email news,
so please keep it coming. ¶ Linda
Smith Gunn passed away in Jan. 2010.
She lived in Bradenton, FL, and left
19 nieces and nephews and 19 greatnieces
and great-nephews! She had
been an executive at Sungard. Her
husband, Lawson Gunn, predeceased
her. ¶ Most of the news we received
these past few months has been
reflections about our professor, friend,
and late college president Sister
Therese Higgins. ¶ Marlena Belviso
Santomero said, “I knew her as Sister
Saint Theresa, and I always looked
forward to her lectures on metaphysical
poetry. She was an extremely fine
professor, and like the subject matter
she discussed, her classes were
creative, thought-provoking, well
structured, and witty. Although it
was evident that she was comfortable
in the world of Donne, Marvell, and
Vaughan, it was equally obvious that
she was a strong, capable woman of
the modern era. I was proud to have
majored in English, and I suspect
that the path I followed after graduation
was very much influenced by
class notes
