she would be married on Aug. 1. A
“surprise shower” for Mary Jane was
held in Maria Hall late on Saturday
night. The gifts were “unique,” the
laughter outrageous. Good wishes
flowed. It was hard to determine
who had more fun, Mary Jane or
those who planned and pulled off the
surprise. On Aug. 1, Mary Jane and
Donald Cameron (her fine, handsome
Scot) tied the knot in Orleans. They
danced, Donald wearing the Cameron
kilt and MJ with his tartan scarf over
her shoulder, and celebrated at the
old boathouse on Wellfleet Harbor
among family and friends. Brenda
McCrann and Pat Kiley Murray were
there. MJ’s only regrets were that
all her Regis classmates couldn’t have
been included. ¶ The Saturday night
lobsterbake was memorable in many
ways: the tent at the Tower Gardens,
the plastic utensils augmented by
bricks to open the claws, the fun
atmosphere, and the band! Dancing
and more dancing, even with the
“young waiters” from the food service!
But June Higgins Twinam truly set
the pace with her amazing moves. A
fitting end to a wonderful weekend.
¶ Since then, I met with Ann Marie
Volante O’Neill after her trip to France
and further purchases of the Quimper
pottery which she represents in the
U.S., and with Marilyn Stasio, who
enjoyed her 2 weeks in Truro on the
Cape. Amazingly, Marilyn does not
drive and manages to get around just
fine. She recalled a statement from
the 25th Anniversary grads as they
visited in the dorm Saturday night:
“We’ve been dying to meet the girls
from the sixties generation.” To which
Marilyn added, “What fun to wave the
banner for our revolutionary generation.”
¶ The column cannot be complete
without a thank you, gracias, to
Winnie Murphy and Brenda McCrann,
who saw to the refreshments in the
lounge. From coffee to sodas to other
libations, we were all well cared for.
Thank you again. ¶ Also, Angela Regis
Kravchuk just completed a 2-year volunteer
job as co-chair of the Bayberry
Quilt Guild Quilt Show, which is the
major event sponsored by the guild
on Cape Cod. ¶ If you have read this
far, it’s time to put my email in your
address book and send me a note
about what you are doing. Please.
50th Reunion Class
✒ Kate Martin Hawke, 4 Rockland
frhawke@comcast.net ¶ Dear classmates,
¶ I am writing this in Aug. and
thinking that 53 years ago we were
preparing to begin our freshman year
at Regis with all the expectations
and anxieties that still accompany
such a momentous occasion in one’s
life. For most of us our years at Regis
proved to be personally and intellectually
fulfilling, as well as a lot of
fun. By now I hope you have received
material about our 50th Reunion in
May of 2011 and plan to come to some
or all of the activities. Many groups
of classmates have mini reunions,
and one of the annual reunions takes
place around St. Patrick’s Day in
Naples, FL, where a Regis contingent
marches/rides in the parade. ¶ Our
classmate Judy Wilson Sullivan hosts
a dinner party for a large group.
This year Eileen Cannon showed up
a week early at Ellie Donahue Foley’s
looking for the parade and party. All
of Eileen’s friends are SHOCKED by
such a rare mistake! ¶ Judith Powers
retired from the Nantucket school
system, sold her house, moved to
Long Island to live with her sister,
and is traveling all over the country
and beyond having a wonderful time.
¶ No more news of note. Hope to see
you all soon.
net ¶ Aloha oe! ¶ As I write on this
starlit subtropical Aug. evening of
gentle trade winds, I am counting my
blessings: this summer has included
a visit with warm “welcome back’s”
to New England—where the weather
of that temperate zone was hotter
than you-know-what. Life’s ironies,
hmm? ¶ Our Alumni Office knew I
would be at the Cape Cod Luncheon,
but classmates Joan Darney Dwyer,
Mary McCauley Higgins, and Sue
Donnelly Riley did not. What fun to
surprise them at Coonamessett Inn,
where Carrol Beegan Follas ’61 (who
preceded me on The Lay Apostolate)
joined us at our table—with an album
from her and her ’61 classmate’s
visit to Maui and me in the spring. ¶
Before the eats and program, I shared
a hug with Carole Kennedy Nassab’s
sister, Christina Kennedy McCann
’60 (who reported that all Nassabs
are well). Then we of ’62 and others
enjoyed the lunch and speaker
before the 4 of us adjourned
to Sue’s to do some planning
for our 50th in 2012. Also
caught a hug with Joan’s
husband, John—and a little
reminiscing regarding their
and their children’s visit to
Maui some years ago and
mine to their Falmouth
spot in 2005. All shared
happy family, volunteer,
career, and retirement news!
¶ Have had nice 2010 conversations
with Nancy Earley
Hicks (ret. in Chelmsford) and Betsy
Comeau Kadehjian and Helene Swiatek
Savicki who are thriving on grandparenting
with respective husbands
Art and Bill. All 3 of these classmates
have acquired daughters-in-law since
last we wrote of them. Best wishes!
¶ A very phone-savvy granddaughter
of Mary Alice Gilmore reported that
M.A. is vacationing in New Jersey
at present. Tom and Joanne Bellucci-
Harding are splitting their time
between MA and FL. Personally, my
international grandchildren genre is
growing. Our personification of “from
Russia with love,” Devon in MA is
now 9 and expecting a cousin or 2
from the Phillippines, thanks to pending
adoption plans by Chris Kimo
and Aunt Mary Ann in Honolulu. ¶
Our All-Loving God never ceases to
amaze and delight this grandmother
... who continues to swim daily, substitute-teach,
and serve on the parish
council (which meets in a quonset
hut), and who was honored this
spring as an “outstanding Woman in
History” on Maui. It’s a small island.
¶ The Alumni Office, at 781-768-
7245, has all our contact info. Would
you consider treating yourself and a
classmate with a “long time no hear”
call? Feel free to let me know any
causes for praise or prayers. Would
love to hear from you! (5 hours later
than Regis timing): 808-264-4540.
Blessings!
net ¶ Hello, dear classmates! I hope
you are coping with the humidity,
storms, drought, etc. How the world
is changing, unlike us! I heard from
Eleanor Keilty Svab, who had some
sad news: “I fell in Jan. and broke
my arm—what a mess. I sheared off
the humerus in my left arm and the
underneath section broke into several
pieces. They could not do surgery
because the radical nerve ran right
through the section that was shattered.
I was in a huge contraption,
class notes
They danced, Donald
wearing the Cameron kilt
and MJ with his tartan
scarf over her shoulder.
