REGIS TODAY
nonscience was mucking around their
turf. She, however, fully appreciated
my curious mind. She made a
dramatic announcement to my fellow
biology classmates (which did not
endear me to them) when I removed
the final ear bone during the dissection.
And she preserved the bones
in a jar as an example of exemplary
work! ¶ After leaving Regis, I entered
the workforce in an administrative
capacity and was Senior Contract
Administrator for NEC (then in
Boxborough) when I left the workforce
for 15 years to raise my 2 children. I
also had begun taking courses toward
an MBA at Babson when family life
called me away from that, too. ¶ I
returned to work at Oak Meadow
Montessori School in Littleton, MA,
when my children were older. After
6 years, the last 2 as Director of
Admission, I left Oak Meadow when
life threw me an unexpected change.
After 3 years of diminished energy
and strength, I was diagnosed with
fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. ¶
By nature I’ve always been active. So,
I immediately began to try to find a
way to still be productive. I started a
business, Syntax and Style, through
which I offer content management
websites to small businesses, and content
writing and editing. I learned the
craft as I went along. ¶ I also began
fiction writing, hoping I could make
a living at something that I could do
when my energy and focus allowed.
¶ My first book, Love’s Compass, is
a timely tale—the story of a woman
who finds herself in a marriage in
which her husband has veered off
their path, for no great reason—his
life has just unfolded in a way other
than hers. The story is an intimate
look at her as she comes to the realization
of her unexpected place in life
after a long-term marriage, how she
comes to terms with her new situation,
and, ultimately, how she finds
her footing. ¶ Love’s Compass is being
received well. Book clubs find it to
be a contemporary and thought-provoking
look at love, marriage, family,
and divorce in our time. Its reception
is encouraging to me as I complete
the writing of my second book, I’d
Love You There Again. I have ideas
sketched out for a 3rd and 4th book. ¶
My writing style is simple—short and
direct sentences, simple word use.
But what people tell me is that I have
an uncanny ability to put into words
things that they think about but could
never express verbally. ¶ And many
people identify with the characters—
men and women alike. ¶ If you are
interested, you can read more about it
at www.lovescompass.com.” ¶ Thank
you, Mary. It was great to hear about
your new success! To the rest of the
class of ’77, we’d love to hear from
you, so please send news!
¶ Audrey Edmonds Stone is Associate
Vice President for Development at
Wake Forest Baptist University
Medical Center. She has been living
most of the last 25 years in NC. She
and her husband celebrated their
26th anniversary this year. Their
daughter Meredith is a senior in
high school and a champion Irish
dancer. Audrey’s mother, Madeline
Edmonds, passed away in Feb. at
age 90 after a decade-long battle
with Alzheimer’s disease. Audrey
cited Sister Thérèse Higgins and
Professor of German Mary Hamilton
as being 2 other important women
in her life whose guidance she still
appreciates today. ¶ Rose Mary Lewis
Irwin walked her daughter, Elizabeth
Ann Irwin, down the aisle of Notre
Dame Parish in Southbridge, MA, on
Apr. 17. Elizabeth married Michael
Francis Orlando of Sherborn. The
couple met when they were in 7th
grade at Dover-Sherborn Junior
High School! Elizabeth is Associate
Director of Disabilities for Suffolk
University, and Mike works for
Pegasus in Boston. In addition to running
a personal chef business called
A Touch of Rose Mary, Rose became
a certified nursing assistant a few
years ago. ¶ Janet Mills-Knudsen and
her husband, Bob, spent 3 weeks this
past spring touring the Middle East,
specifically Israel, Jordan, and Egypt,
highlighted by a cruise down the Nile
River. ¶ Kathy Mulvihill Brutzman and
her husband, Bill, visited Chicago for
the first time and enjoyed learning
about the history and architecture
of the city. She had planned to meet
up with Cindy O’Donnell in WI, but a
train cancellation made that impossible.
Kathy and Bill’s 17-year-old
son, PJ, was awarded a full scholarship
to the Berklee College of Music,
Performance Program, for 5 weeks
to study guitar. Son Brian, age 24,
is pursuing a master’s degree in
Psychology at NYU. Kathy visited
Jean Jianos Gray and her family in
Eastham on the Cape. They met up
with Mary and Susan McManus (class
of 1982) and really enjoyed reminiscing
about their days at Regis. They
even went to see Jim Plunkett! ¶
Cheryl Rodgers, Debbie Southworth
Howard, and Kathy Shepard reunited
in June to see James Taylor and
Carole King in Boston. ¶ Karen
Walsh Fortin and her husband, Larry,
went on a Mediterranean cruise to
Italy and Greece. Karen started her
vacation early by flying to Rome for
a 2-day cooking class. She says that
cooking has always been her passion.
Karen and Larry recently celebrated
their 31st anniversary at Sandals in
the Bahamas. They have 2 granddaughters,
Shaelyn and Briella.
Karen, who is a math specialist at an
elementary school, reports that she
gets together with Janet Morehouse
’58 every couple of months, most
recently at The Blue Ginger in
Wellesley. ¶ Now that you’ve finished
reading these updates from your
former classmates, isn’t this the
perfect time to contact Janet or Deb
with news for the next edition of Regis
Today? We look forward to hearing
from you!
