Where lots are more than double the minimumrequired area for the zoning district, the subdivision agent may require that those lots be arranged so asto allow further subdivision and the opening of future streets where they would be necessary to servepotential lots, all in compliance with the zoning ordinance and these regulations.5.9Shape.The arrangement, design, and shape of lots shall provide efficient and appropriate sites for buildings,recognize and complement the natural contour of terrain, and conform to the requirements of thisordinance. Lots shall not contain peculiarly shaped elongations solely to provide necessary squarefootage of area or street footage which would be unusable for normal purposes. The depth of a residentiallot shall not exceed five (5) times its width. Depth and width of properties reserved or laid out forbusiness, commercial, or industrial purposes shall be adequate to provide for the off-street parking andloading facilities required for the type of use and development contemplated, as established in the zoningordinance.5.10Orientation.The lot line common to the street right-of-way shall be the front line and all lots shall face the frontline and a similar line across the street. However, when a lot borders the water, the front line may bealong the water, but in no case shall setbacks from the street right of way be less than the required frontyard setback for the proposed structure, principal or accessory. Wherever feasible, lots shall be arrangedso that the rear line does not abut the side line of an adjacent lot.5.11Lot frontage.Every lot shall front on a public street, except as provided for in the zoning ordinance, familysubdivision lots, agricultural subdivision lots, agricultural subdivision lots, and lots served by privateaccess easements as specifically provided for in this ordinance. Every lot shall have the minimum roadfrontage according to its respective zoning district.5.12Corner lots.Corner lots shall have extra width for maintenance of any required setback line on both streets as setforth in the zoning ordinance. Minimum building lines for corner lots shall be according to article II of thezoning ordinance.5.13Side lot lines.Side lot lines shall be approximately at right angles or approximately radial to the street line, exceptat cul-de-sac terminal points.5.14Remnants or outlots.No remnants of lots or outlots shall be permitted. Residue tracts that are below minimum lot sizemust be added to adjacent lots, or otherwise disposed of rather than allowed to remain as unusableparcels.<strong>Bedford</strong> <strong>County</strong>, <strong>Virginia</strong>, Code of <strong>Ordinance</strong>s Page 25
