- CODE OF THE COUNTYAPPENDIX B - SUBDIVISION ORDINANCEARTICLE 8 - WAIVERS AND APPEALSDIVISION 2 APPEALSARTICLE 7UTILITIES7.1 Location.7.2 Easements.7.3 Water facilities.7.4 Sewerage facilities (reserved).7.5 Drainage and storm management.7.1Location.All utility facilities, including but not limited to gas, electric power, telephone, and CATV cables, shallbe located underground throughout the subdivision according to a land use permit issued by VDOT.Power lines in newly created major subdivisions shall be underground. All utility facilities shall be shownin an easement on the preliminary plan.7.2Easements.Easements of ten (10) feet in width, or greater, shall be provided for water, sewer, power andtelephone lines, and other utilities in the subdivision. Such easements shall be laid out so as to ensurecontinuity of utilities from lot to lot, block to block, and to adjacent property. Such utility easements shallbe kept free of structures and wherever possible shall be located adjacent to property lines. Nothing inthis section is intended to prohibit the placement of public utilities within dedicated rights-of-way. Thesubdivision agent may require that easements for drainage through adjoining property be provided by thesubdivider.7.3Water facilities.1. General requirements.a. In accordance with <strong>Virginia</strong> Code section 15.2-2243, public waterline extensions as well asreimbursement by subsequent subdividers or developers are required in and to majorsubdivisions (as defined in article I) and those that are specified for extension in <strong>Appendix</strong> A, inaccordance with regulations mentioned in 7.3(1)e.b. The <strong>Bedford</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public Service Authority (the "authority") is hereby designated as thedepartment/agency authorized to establish and revise from time to time a general sewer andwater program for any area having related and common sewer and water condition.c. The required waterline extension from an existing main is shown in <strong>Appendix</strong> A and themaximum shall be seven thousand five hundred (7,500) feet for a proposed development of onehundred fifty (150) lots. The developer or subdivider shall finance, connect, and install waterfacilities (including fire hydrants) and appurtenances subject to the specifications and approvalof the authority. All water mains shall be at least six (6) inches in diameter, except water mainsless than five hundred (500) feet which do not have the potential of being extended further asdetermined by the authority.
