• Special measures at the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> association: Firstly mongoose were given exclusive<br />

access to the outdoor enclosure for several days to habituate them to the environment.<br />

• Special behavioural observations (<strong>in</strong>tra- or <strong>in</strong>terspecific): Several days after mandrills<br />

had also been given access to the outdoor enclosure, they were habituated to the new<br />

situation and chased (hunted) the mongoose whenever they could (except the alpha male).<br />

Two mongoose were lethally <strong>in</strong>jured.<br />

• Problems and risks (animals, technical, vet. medical): Although mongoose used their<br />

burrows, which they dug under roots, for shelter, mandrills managed to catch them; mongoose<br />

were removed.<br />

• Cause <strong>of</strong> problems and trouble shoot<strong>in</strong>g: This association cannot be recommended.<br />
