Telecommunication Arts Mission StatementThe department of Telecommunication Arts offers programs designed to preparegraduates for entry-level positions in the electronic media and related industries,while providing a foundation of liberal arts education conducive to lifelong learningand advancement to a position of leadership. The Department seeks to foster anunderstanding of the role of telecommunications in our global society. Thedepartment does not train narrowly focused vocationally oriented students; rather iteducates future leaders and innovators.WTBU-TV and WRBU Internet radio serve as the primary instructional laboratoryand performance venues for Telecommunication Arts students.II. TC Lab PoliciesStudents who participate in lab experiences must be currently enrolled at ButlerUniversity as degree seeking students. All participants working forWRBU/WTBU/WFYI must be enrolled in a 1 credit hour lab. Exceptions are madeonly for staff produced programs that serve a community mission rather than apurely academic one.A. Sign-up Policies1. Telecommunication Art majorsa. Video and audio labs (TC120/320/130/330/ 331/333) lab opportunitiesare identified by the student in consultation with his/her advisor duringregistration periods.1. Permission required prior to registration for WFYI Labsa. Student must interview with WFYI lab supervisor before enrolling.b. WTBU Director of Operations must approve lab placement.2. Permission required for audio production labsa. The Audio Production supervisor must approve lab placement.b. The faculty advisor will then enroll student into appropriate lab.3. Permission required for TC 333-Electonic Media Performance laba. Permission of the faculty supervisor of the lab is required.b. The faculty advisor will then enroll student into the lab.4. Permission required for TC 331Operations/Engineering Laba. Requires permission of the advisor in consultation with the appropriatestaff supervisor.NOTE: Students enrolled in TC 120/320/130/330/333 labs will provide crew andtalent for events as directed by the faculty member or supervisor. Remote production labstudents will be required to attend no more than 8 events per semester. The grade for thelab is based on attendance and successful performance of the requirements for the jobassigned.
