3.1 What Can Be Done<br />
<strong>to</strong> Improve Productivity<br />
Year-on-year increases in lives<strong>to</strong>ck imports show<br />
that lives<strong>to</strong>ck demand is outstripping local supply.<br />
If local production can be improved simultaneously<br />
with market access and quality – there are great<br />
opportunities awaiting development agencies and<br />
the private sec<strong>to</strong>r. With improved understanding of<br />
demand trends and careful analysis of value chains<br />
there could be excellent returns from investments<br />
in lives<strong>to</strong>ck agriculture.<br />
