Livestock Producers: Initially a small but with time,
an increasing contribution for the work of the
veterinary service in underserved areas should
come from the livestock producers themselves.
Concurrent programmes of support to enable
livestock producers realize an increased return from
their livestock assets and the acquisition, by
veterinary service personnel, of the necessary skills
through continuing professional development to
support the realization of that return – would have
mutually beneficial impacts
Training Agents: Veterinary para-professionals
can be trained by veterinarians to deliver specific
messages to livestock producers, receiving payment
to provide / attend the training course and to provide
/ attend further training and feed-back sessions
Income Earning: A range of interventions, inclusive
of those given above, are required to improve
income earning potential for Veterinary personnel
and sustainability of services in underserved areas.
Key interventions include the need for training /
refresher training with a focus on income earning;
provision of materials and equipment to enhance
the value of the services offered; transport; cold
chain; communications and; security for small
loans.
