Exit Interview for Interim Pastors with the Congregation<br />

The exit interview is intended as a review of the interim journey and to provide Information that will<br />

be helpful to the congregation as it prepares for and begins a new pastoral ministry. This may be<br />

used with the Congregation Council, an adult forum, or other large group gathering.<br />

Suggested questions for congregational members and leaders:<br />

• What were 3 major concerns when the previous pastor resigned?<br />

• What are 3 major concerns as a new pastor begins ministry in this parish?<br />

• What are some helpful things that occurred during this interim ministry?<br />

• In what ways has this congregation’s relationship with the synod changed during this interim<br />

ministry?<br />

• Are there any areas that you had hoped that the synod would have been more helpful?<br />

• In what ways has the decision-making process in the congregation changed during this interim<br />

ministry? What were the leadership changes during this period?<br />

• Are members of the congregation presently more or less satisfied about congregational life?<br />

Why?<br />

• What have you learned about this congregation during this interim ministry?<br />

• In what ways has this congregation prepared for new pastoral leadership?<br />

• What were things you wanted the interim pastor to do that were not done?<br />

• What advice would you give a friend whose congregation has lost its pastor?<br />

Suggested questions that may be asked the interim pastor (or maybe congregation)<br />

• What were 3 major concerns/issues you discovered about this congregation when you began<br />

your interim ministry?<br />

• What major concerns do you now have about our congregation as we begin ministry with a<br />

new pastor?<br />

• What are some significant things that occurred during this interim ministry?<br />

• How well were ELCA and synodical resources used during this interim journey?<br />

• What frustrations or disappointments did you have during this interim ministry?<br />

• What do you see as strengths of this congregation?<br />

• What are areas of improvement needed by this congregation?<br />

• What type(s) of ministry do you see as needed in the future in this parish?<br />

• In what ways have you felt supported by the congregation during your ministry here?<br />

• What are some the things you wished you had done in this congregation?<br />
