The Interim—Step by Step<br />
• The interim pastor settles into the life of the congregation<br />
• After a month or two, the interim minister begins the interim tasks<br />
• The interim minister helps to update the constitution if necessary, and address any<br />
other issues the Congregation Council deems important<br />
• The Congregation Council selects the team to complete the Mission Site Profile<br />
(MSP)<br />
• The interim pastor coordinates work on the interim task with the the work of the<br />
MSP team<br />
• The Congregation Council prepares the compensation package range<br />
• The Congregation Council selects the <strong>Call</strong> Committee according to the constitution<br />
• The Congregation Council, MSP team, <strong>Call</strong> Committee and other interested<br />
members meet with synod staff to review the MSP, and consider clarification and<br />
refinements to the document<br />
• Synod staff stays to meet with the <strong>Call</strong> Committee for their orientation to preparing<br />
for and carrying out interviews<br />
• The Congregation Council or the congregation at a special meeting votes to<br />
approve the MSP<br />
• The <strong>Call</strong> Committee sends names of any candidates suggested by the<br />
congregation to synod staff<br />
• Synod staff prayerfully discerns the needs of the congregation and the gifts<br />
potential candidates, sending a packet of 1 to 5 candidates to the <strong>Call</strong> Committee<br />
• The <strong>Call</strong> Committee interviews all the potential candidates<br />
• If the <strong>Call</strong> Committee discerns that God is calling a particular candidate to them<br />
they notify synod staff and recommend the candidate to the Congregation Council<br />
— at this point the circle of confidentiality grows to include the Council<br />
• If none of the candidates are a good match, the <strong>Call</strong> Committee notifies synod staff<br />
and a new slate of candidates is gathered<br />
• The <strong>Call</strong> Committee communicates their decisions to the candidates in a timely<br />
manner<br />
• The Congregation Council receives the <strong>Call</strong> Committee’s recommendation and<br />
contacts the candidate to negotiate the compensation package<br />
• If there is agreement on the terms of the Letter of <strong>Call</strong>, the Congregation Council<br />
notifies the synod staff and calls a special meeting of the congregation<br />
• The <strong>Call</strong> Committee works with the candidate to provide a biography and other<br />
information about the candidate to the congregation<br />
• The congregation votes by written ballot to call the candidate; the measure must<br />
pass by at least a ⅔ majority vote<br />
