CAT Interpretation & Analysis
Services
CAT3 Workshop
Designed for up to 15 participants and especially suited to school
clusters, federations and academy chains, our CAT3 Workshop builds
the capacity of participants and schools to fully understand and
interrogate their CAT3 data.
It is aimed at participants who are already familiar with the
administration of CAT3, but are looking for a deeper insight into the
interpretation and analysis of the data. The workshop is carried out on a
school’s own premises.
Ideal for use at an INSET day or as a twilight session, the workshop
provides a thorough examination of sample sets of CAT3 data and
reports. Participants will also benefit from explanations of statistical
terminology and clarification on who should receive your CAT3 data,
when and for what purpose. The benefits of using CAT3 alongside other
standardised datasets are also explored (e.g. Fischer Family Trust (FFT)
data).

CAT3 Strategic Report
The CAT3 Strategic Report is a time efficient and cost effective
summary of your school’s existing CAT3 data for a specific level and/or
year group. Written as a school-specific report, it summarises the main
points and key questions highlighted by the data, providing you with a
wealth of valuable information that can be used more strategically to
inform decisions at individual and school level. As such, it saves you
considerable time, removing the burden of analysing reams of pupil
data.
The comprehensive report provides a clear focus on the implications for
learning and teaching, based on exemplar pupil profiles, alongside a
narrative summary of all group reports.

CAT3 Consultancy Service
Available together with the CAT3 Strategic Report or to schools that
have previously received a CAT3 Strategic Report, our CAT3
Consultancy Service is the ideal choice for schools looking for an even
deeper and more strategic level of analysis than is possible through the
CAT3 Workshop.
As part of the service, your school is partnered with a skilled and
experienced facilitator who works closely with the School Leadership
Team (SLT) to analyse in detail the priorities, strategies and processes
that address the key questions arising from the CAT3 Strategic Report,
taking into account other school-specific information.
In addition to a half-day meeting with the SLT, schools receive a final
enhanced school-specific summary identifying the key questions and
plans for improvement agreed at the visit.

(If combined with the CAT Strategic Report, up to £200 spent on
the report can be offset against the CAT Consultancy Service)
Interpretation & Analysis Services for CAT4
GL Assessment also offers comprehensive Interpretation & Analysis
Services for the brand new CAT4 (pages 10–13). Throughout the
2012/13 academic year, customers can choose between the CAT4
Workshop and CAT4 Consultancy Service. Like its CAT3 equivalent, the
CAT4 Consultancy Service involves partnership with a skilled facilitator
who, together with the SLT, examines a school’s CAT4 reports, focusing
on the strategic implications for school improvement and helping to
identify and prioritise next steps. For the CAT4 Consultancy Service, a
Strategic Report is currently not required.

Professional Development Modules
In addition to our CAT Interpretation & Analysis Services, we also offer
63 Professional Development Modules (pages 72–73), including four
modules that help schools get more from their CAT data. These
modules are provided by GL Performance, our school improvement
division, and are available for both CAT3 and CAT4.
While the remaining 59 modules do not focus on CAT specifically, many
of these may come into consideration for schools as a ‘next step’ in the
continual drive for school improvement on the back of the findings from
the CAT Consultancy Service.
