Children experiencing emotional or mental health issues are unlikely to be able to fulfil their potential in the classroom and schools have a duty to help with the early recognition and identification of these children. Responding quickly with appropriate interventions and providing specialist help where necessary will provide these children with the support they need to achieve to the best of their ability. Measures of Children’s Mental Health & Psychological Wellbeing can be used by a range of staff including teachers, SENCOs and school nurses. It provides a range of simple, paper-based assessments that can be used to measure the development of a child’s social and emotional skills, individually or in a group setting. Examples taken from the Booklets of Measures Along with an informative introduction booklet, the portfolio comprises a further seven booklets containing over 50 valuable instruments for measuring a child’s mental health and psychological wellbeing. Full guidance is provided on how to administer, score and interpret each measure, as well as ideas for subsequent intervention. By using Measures of Children’s Mental Health & Psychological Wellbeing you can assess your pupils emotional needs over time and ensure that any specialist interventions introduced are helping them progress in school. Combined with Pupil Attitudes to Self and School (PASS) (pages 50–52), our all-age attitudinal survey that measures pupils’ attitudes by looking at factors proven to be linked with key educational goals, an overall profile of a pupil’s emotional health, wellbeing and attitudes can be established to help inform appropriate intervention programmes.
