the British Spelling Test
Series: Second Edition (page
42) offers choice to teachers that
want to test spelling as part of a
comprehensive literacy
assessment. The widely used

Available in both paper and digital formats Single Word Spelling Test
(SWST) comprises a series of nine standardised tests designed to
assess spelling attainment. Relevant for all the UK’s curricula, each test
covers everyday vocabulary and contains between 30 and 50 words
(depending on level), including high frequency, literacy hour and spelling
bank words.
Fully photocopiable, SWST presents each word in a sentence context
making the test more relevant for pupils. Along with a handy reference
guide for you to use with each pupil SWST includes structured spelling
test lists, supplementary assessments and a structured analysis of
spelling errors.
Single Word Spelling Test Digital (SWST Digital) is available under either
a Primary School Annual Licence or a
Secondary School Annual licence with the
benefits of the paper test but the advantages of
instant scoring and reporting.
Group and individual results are available and
are illustrated in the diagnostic group report
that features:
• Pupils’ results by Standard Age Score
• Spelling ages
• Percentile ranks
• Question by question analysis against national
scores
• Analysis by word level against national scores
