He said, “The organ fell off the trailer.” I immediately started to cry because no good news is ours, and we should be committed to ensuring its and our longevity. After all, the last time I checked, Mars wasn’t quite ready for habitation! could possibly follow “the organ fell off the trailer.” He looked so sad and like a child that had broken some extremely valuable thing. “We picked up all the pieces,” he said hopefully. I just sobbed harder. I told myself to stop it. It was just a big piece of furniture that didn’t even work anymore. I made myself stop crying. “It’s ok,” I told DH. And I meant it. It is ok. I’ll miss it sitting silently in my house. I’ll miss cleaning it every week. I’ll miss the cats using it as a hiding place. (They climb inside the opening for the big pedal). I’ll still have the memories. Eventually, I will go in the storage shed and sift through the salvaged pieces. Maybe I can use them to make something. One more thing. DH has to tell Mom what happened to her father’s organ.
