The Richland County Recreation Commission was
awarded a $5000 grant from the Carolina Panthers
Charities. The Recreation Commission’s Special
Populations Department will team up with the South
Carolina Special Olympics to start the first in the State
of South Carolina, Challenger Flag Football league
the Challenger Flag Football League will be free
for boys and girls, ages 8-21, with intellectual and
physical disabilities. To register, parents can contact
the Recreation Commission’s Special Populations
Department, (803) 754-6720 ext. 215.
South Carolina Special Olympics also plans to
make flag football the newest sport for the 2009
According to the Special Olympics, this league will
be the third of its kind in the United States, Indiana
and Arizona have similar leagues.
Flag Football League in operation, which was
funded by the Carolina Panthers Charities, located
in Charlotte, NC. The Carolina Panthers Charities
is a donor advised fund of the Foundation of the
Carolinas and is endowed by the Panthers Football,
