Jimmy has spent all of his life in Winnsboro. When
he graduated high school, he worked for Uniroyal
for thirteen years. During this time, Jimmy would
repair appliances on the side. “Mr. Johnson owned the
appliance repair shop,” Jimmy said. “I’d come help
him whenever I could. Then in 1991, he called and
asked if I wanted to buy the business. Handi Houses
was already a part of the business when I bought it.”
Handi Houses has been building houses since 1966.
The buildings are already structured and ready to be
moved. There’s no kit, no assembly required. The
floors are constructed of 2x4 or 2x6 joist with either
5/8” or 3/4” tongue and groove exterior- depending on
the size of the building. The floor joists are mounted
on 4x6 treated skids. These features are hidden
under the floor, but are important in the strength of
the building. The buildings are wired with electrical
sockets and light fixtures. They just need to be wired
to electricity to make them ready for use. They are

“In house financing is also available,” Jimmy
continued. “We’re open Mondays, Tuesdays,
Thursdays and Fridays from 9am until 5pm. Although
the buildings can be viewed at any time of the day, I
recommend that people call first if they would like to
speak to me about them. Sometimes I’m out on calls
and have to leave the office. However, the buildings
are always open, and the prices are listed inside.”
Jimmy still lives in Winnsboro with his wife, Janice.
The couple has two sons, Jeff (and wife, Jackie), and
Little Jimmy (and wife Nicole). They are members of
Rockton Baptist Church and have three grandchildren:
Caitlyn, J., and Cole.
