Any personal medication required should be checked and a process established for its distribution. A<br />
comprehensive First Aid kit must be carried.<br />
Communications equipment, both between vehicles and to emergency services, must be carried as<br />
well as navigation equipment such as GPS.<br />
Equipment<br />
The equipment requirement will vary according to the nature of the program, the environment and the<br />
distances covered.<br />
Minimum vehicle requirements for most trips would be:<br />

vehicle mechanically sound, fully serviced and road worthy, and suitable for the terrain to be<br />
covered<br />
map, details of route to be followed, and navigation aids<br />
sufficient fuel, oil, water and food, including emergency provision<br />
at least one spare tyre (correctly inflated) and tyre gauge<br />
fire extinguisher for each vehicle<br />
recovery point fitted front and rear<br />
At least one vehicle carries recovery gear such as:<br />

snatch strap (dynamic recovery strap)<br />
two, rated bow shackles (minimum of 2 tonnes rated)<br />
one axe or hand saw (bow or pruning)<br />
one shovel<br />
spare parts appropriate for location and duration of planned trip<br />
tool kit suitable for the vehicle and the planned trip, with appropriate manual.<br />
A current vehicle registration certificate must be carried at all times.<br />
Drivers must hold a current drivers licence for the vehicle they are driving.<br />
Approval<br />

at the beginning of these procedures, and those determined by the school’s or college’s risk<br />
management plan for the off campus activity.<br />
Supervision<br />
No specific requirements beyond the Planning Requirements For All Off Campus Activities described<br />
at the beginning of these procedures, and those determined by the school’s or college’s risk<br />
management plan for the off campus activity.<br />
Names and a head count of all participants must be checked and recorded at the beginning and at<br />
the end of the excursion. Regular head counts should also be carried out during the excursion.<br />
