Safety<br />

A log must be kept of equipment use.<br />

The facility must comply with local statutory building requirements, including inspection re-certification<br />

– a certified engineering certification should be provided. Artificial climbing structures such as walls,<br />

gyms, outside facilities and equipment must be checked each day.<br />

All participants should be given a thorough briefing on safe usage of equipment and fittings, and be<br />

able to demonstrate the necessary level of skill to belay and climb independently.<br />

Approval<br />

No specific requirements beyond the Planning Requirements For All Off Campus Activities described<br />

at the beginning of these procedures, and those determined by the school’s or college’s risk<br />

management plan for the off campus activity.<br />

Supervision<br />

No specific requirements beyond the Planning Requirements For All Off Campus Activities described<br />

at the beginning of these procedures, and those determined by the school’s or college’s risk<br />

management plan for the off campus activity.<br />

Names and a head count of all participants must be checked and recorded at the beginning and at<br />

the end of the excursion. Regular head counts should also be carried out during the excursion.<br />

Qualifications/Experience<br />

Sport climbing/wall climbing – Tasmanian Climbing Instructors Association (TCIA) Top<br />

Rope/Abseiling Instructor or Multi-pitch Guide, or equivalent.<br />

Lead climbing – TCIA Multi-pitch Guide, or equivalent.<br />

Indoor climbing specific accreditation, with units:<br />
