QSP for Net-Shape Preforms NEWS
BIZ BRIEFS
Loiretech (Mauves-sur-Loire,
France) and Compose (Bellingnat,
France). The process reportedly
achieves the goal of high performance,
low cost and short cycle time
simultaneously, including:
• Production of variable-thickness parts with customized
multi-layer orientations;
• Use of multiple fibers and polymers from hybrid
pultruded tapes;
• Cycle time from 40-90 seconds, including preform fabrication,
heating, transfer and thermoforming/overmolding
for high volumes;
• Competitive production economics within the additional
cost limit of €5/kg saved.
QSP partners imagined the concept two years ago and
now provide an automatic production line ready for developing
and producing industrial prototypes for the automotive
and aerospace markets.
Toray Industries Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) revealed that it is decommissioning
three carbonization lines in Ehime, Japan. The three lines
are reportedly among the company’s oldest, and they can’t be
upgraded to current seismic and earthquake-resistant standards,
so will be demolished before March 2019. The three lines produce
M60JB-3K, T300-1K and T300-3K fiber products, but Toray says
it can provide equivalent alternative products by the time the
lines are razed.
Janicki Industries (Sedro-Woolley, WA, US) opened a new
engineering office in Everett, WA that will support the aerospace
industry with a special emphasis on turnkey solutions for carbon
fiber parts and production tooling. Located near one of The Boeing
Co.’s (Chicago, IL, US) assembly sites for widebody commercial
aircraft and a cluster of aerospace Tier I suppliers, the office
location will support and foster collaboration and communication
between Janicki headquarters and its Everett-area customers.
Victrex Plc (Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire UK) has bought USbased
polymer gears specialist Kleiss Gears (Grantsburg, WI, US).
The pairing of Kleiss Gears’ high-precision gear design, testing
and manufacturing capability with Victrex’s materials technology,
innovation focus, technical excellence, and global commercial
scale, reportedly provides a new integrated option for customers.
