Church told Alan about their search for the great white shark, while
Pinky, Ryan, and Jenny chatted amongst themselves. George, being his
usual inquisitive self, noticed the three facing one another and became
curious. Being an analytical man, he wondered whether the gifted ones
were telepathic, and if Jenny was a gifted one. He put this thought to the
back of his mind.
Alan Dogmire had brought along a V-pod. He set that up and explained
to the group about his earlier studies, using projected holo images of
different locations around the Earth.
“I am afraid you're wasting your time Church,” said Alan.
“These images cover the entire planet. The satellite that we used many
years ago still monitors for tagged great white sharks. If a shark is
present the satellite will show its location as a red spot.”
“I don’t see anything, only ocean,” said Church.
“I know,” said Dogmire, “And it’s been like that for over two years,” he
sighed and announced,
“The great white, along with other shark species are extinct.”
“Could you have missed tagging one,” asked Pinky, now focused on the
discussion.
“Unlikely, said Alan. “Great whites are territorial. They follow a
routine for breeding and feeding, changing their diet at different stages
of their growth. The conditions have to suit their needs, so the areas are
specific. I've spent the last two years surveying parts the ocean for
anywhere they could be, but to no avail, even with the most up to date
soncams and side scan sonar.”
