Priscilla Banda.
Aptly named ‘The Three
Elements – the sun... the
earth... the water...’, Priscilla
Banda’s garden was designed to
stimulate the senses. Intended as a space
for relaxation, the garden features a raised
patio overlooking a water feature. “It’s a
mix of contemporary aspects and includes
water, stepping stones with planting inbetween,
raised beds and split levels,”
explains Priscilla, whose landscaping
company Green Dimensions, is based in
Gaborone, Botswana.
Priscilla separated the areas by placing
them on different levels. The patio is on
the highest and the water feature with its
walkway and surrounding planting on the
lowest. The three elements, sun, earth and
water are represented in different ways.
An ornamental metal sun hangs above
the patio. “It’s set against a grey background
wall, which depicts an overcast sky
THIS PAGE, CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: The curved water feature is filled by letter
box spouts on both sides. Dark purplish-black mondo grass and mauve scabiosa create a
sense of tranquillity and depth. Strelitzia reginae. Strappy mondo grass contrasts
beautifully with the autumnal colours of dwarf Nandina domestica (sacred bamboo).
