this advice:
For a well-thoughtout
display, stick to
a particular palette,
whether it’s neutral tones
of white and grey or complementary
colours like baby blue and pastel pink.
Remember the principle of ones,
twos and threes. Always have at least
one personal item on display; a framed
photo or your child’s artwork for
example. Have at least two bursts of
greenery, as this really helps to bring
life to a shelf. Include a set of three
items (see above), whether it’s three
vases or three ceramic pots. A grouping
of identical objects makes for a wellbalanced
arrangement.
Begin with the end in mind. Even
if it’s just a rough idea, visualise
what you want to put on the shelves
before you go shopping. Knowing
beforehand that you want boxes for
storage, vases for fresh flowers and
a couple of quirky items will make the
selection process much easier. And
you may find that you already have
a number of suitable accessories.
