Both the owners and Jacob share a love
of art, which led to the creation of a gallery
wall on the stairway. “I always incorporate
art in my projects and had the Van der
Heevers’ original pieces reframed to fit in
with the sleek look of the house. We also
added some new finds to the mix.”
To give the house a warm, personal
feel, Jacob included memorabilia from
the Van der Heevers’ many travels.
Murano glass from Venice, wooden masks
from Africa and traditional shell jewellery
from tropical islands are all reminders of
special moments.
“This was the first time I’d worked on
such a modern home, but I’ve fallen in
love with the simplicity and clean, straight
lines,” says Jacob. “Lenie and Stanley were
the perfect clients as they were very relaxed
about the whole process and placed their
trust in me. This made the installation go
that much more smoothly.”

The indoor braai area can be opened up
or closed off from the main living areas of
the home by means of sliding glass doors.
The large dining table is from Fechters in
Knysna and the chairs from The Modern
Home Company. The kitchen was
designed by architect Merinda Brymer
and installed by Joos Joiners. The colourful
Philippe Starck Mademoiselle chairs are
from Kartell.
