jo’burg renovation The past PERFECTED A historic house in Modderfontein gave Sara Burdon and her partner Bill the perfect opportunity to create a home for their casual lifestyle The salvaged rattan furniture on the patio was updated with a paint technique. Who lives here Sara Burdon, her partner Bill Peet, her 18-year-old son Joshua and their dogs Bella, a Labrador, and Lady, a cocker spaniel. The house A four-bedroom, double-storey home with a wraparound veranda built on the footprint of a house dating back to the early 1900s. We fell in love with the peaceful, wooded surrounds of Thornhill Estate while renting a house here,” says Sara Burdon, who moved to South Africa from the UK with her partner Bill Peet five years ago. The estate, situated in Modderfontein east of Jo’burg, incorporates 275 hectares of nature reserve and heritage buildings dating back to the late 1800s, when communities developed around the then newly built dynamite factory.
