STAFF<br />

85. The Club must record evidence that the actions referred to in the Development Action Plan<br />

have been undertaken, and review those actions within an appropriate period with the<br />

coach, and amend the Development Action Plan if necessary.<br />

86. The Club shall ensure that the Head of Academy Coaching reviews, and if necessary amends,<br />

each coach’s Development Action Plan with such frequency as is necessary.<br />

Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine<br />

87. Each Club which operates a Category 1 and Category 2 Academy shall appoint a Full Time<br />

Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine who shall report to either the Academy<br />

Manager or the Official who is responsible for Sports Science and Medicine for the entire<br />

Club (and whichever he reports to, he shall liaise closely with the other).<br />

88. Each Club which operates a Category 3 or Category 4 Academy shall demonstrate to the<br />

reasonable satisfaction of the League, the ISO or PGB (whichever body is appropriate) that<br />

its Sports Science and Medicine Programme for Academy Players is appropriately managed<br />

and delivered.<br />

Guidance<br />

A Club which operates a Category 3 or Category 4 Academy may choose to buy in support for this function on a part time<br />

basis.<br />

89. The Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine shall be responsible for managing and<br />

delivering the Sports Science and Medicine Programme for all Academy Players registered<br />

with the Club.<br />

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT RULES<br />

90. The Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine:<br />

90.1 shall be either:<br />

90.1.1 a registered physiotherapist member of the Health and Care Professions<br />

Council; or<br />

90.1.2 a registered medical practitioner licensed to practise by the General Medical<br />

Council with a diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine or equivalent or higher<br />

qualification; or<br />

90.1.3 the holder of at least a master’s degree in sports science (or other relevant<br />

discipline) from a recognised university and have or be working towards<br />

British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences accreditation; and<br />

90.2 shall have recent and relevant professional experience in a sports performance<br />

environment.<br />

Guidance<br />

Under 90.1.2, where the Academy Doctor is not head of department the further qualification is still necessary if the<br />

doctor is providing independent unsupervised management in the area of Sport and Exercise Medicine.<br />

Under 90.1.3, it is anticipated that British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences accreditation will be a requirement<br />

for this post in 2016/17.<br />
