MIKE HIGASHI, NHS guida<strong>nce</strong> counselor, received a<br />

BA in psychology from Yale University, a MEd from the<br />

University of Hawaii, and a CAES from Boston College.<br />

Prior to <strong>Needham</strong>, he counseled students at the Iolani<br />

School in Honolulu, and for nine years co-directed<br />

Hawaii’s largest SAT Prep program. He has led SAT<br />

Prep workshops at The College Board Western<br />

Regional Confere<strong>nce</strong> and at The Hawaii Association<br />

for College Admissions Counseling Confere<strong>nce</strong>, and<br />

has taught SAT Prep classes for <strong>Needham</strong> Community<br />

Education si<strong>nce</strong> the fall of 2005.<br />

DAN HUDDER, NHS English teacher, received his BS<br />

in English Education from NYU, and is working towards<br />

a M.A. in American Studies from UMass Boston. With<br />

former <strong>Needham</strong> High School English teacher David<br />

Smokler, he founded, designed and coordinated<br />

<strong>Needham</strong> Test Prep, an SAT preparation program in<br />

<strong>Needham</strong>. Dan has taught and coordinated SAT Prep<br />

classes for <strong>Needham</strong> Community Education si<strong>nce</strong> the<br />

fall of 2005.<br />

ULRICH INGE took up ballroom dancing while<br />

attending Boston University’s School of Management.<br />

He then began dancing salsa with Boston Salsa<br />

University, a club affiliated with Boston University.<br />

Through this club, he met Roberto Figueroa and his<br />

da<strong>nce</strong> company, Rumba Y Timbal, and has performed<br />

with the group at various venues in Boston and<br />

Connecticut. Ulrich loves to da<strong>nce</strong> and sees it as a<br />

way to inspire people and bring joy to their lives.<br />

KIM KNOWLTON holds a MA in Education from<br />

Cambridge College, managed a Kabloom store and<br />

worked as part of a design team at a local florist.<br />

Kim has taught Floral Design and Floral Arranging in<br />

area <strong>adult</strong> education <strong>programs</strong> for several years, and<br />

freela<strong>nce</strong>s as a wedding and special events florist.<br />

DOUG KOPCSO holds a BS in Business<br />

Administration from Babson College and completed<br />

his teacher licensure in 2005, earning his PBTL from<br />

Framingham State College. He has taught SAT Prep<br />

classes for <strong>Needham</strong> Community Education si<strong>nce</strong> the<br />

fall of 2005.<br />

JOAN LANAGAN has a BA in Spanish from Regis<br />

College and a MEd. In Bilingual Education from<br />

UMass, Boston, and is recently retired from the<br />

Wayland <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> after over 35 years of teaching<br />

Spanish. Joan has studied and traveled in Costa Rica,<br />

Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico and Spain. For the last<br />

two summers, she has worked in Peru with Hatun<br />

Runa, a non-profit organization committed to medical<br />

and educational development in the northeast Andes.<br />

HEATHER LAPLANTE has been recognized as one<br />

of The Knot’s best of Boston area cake designers<br />

for 2010, 2011 and 2012. She teaches cake<br />

decorating and is a member of the International<br />

Cake Exploration Societé. Visit her website at www.<br />

ANAND LELE is an active member of the American<br />

Contract Bridge League (ACBL) si<strong>nce</strong> 1982, and has<br />

played in various tournaments, achieving the rank<br />

of Silver Life Master. He is also an ACBL accredited<br />

teacher, and has taught Beginning and Intermediate<br />

Bridge in local community education <strong>programs</strong> si<strong>nce</strong><br />

1993. Anand holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the<br />

University of Poona, India, and worked for many years<br />

as a structural engineer.<br />

MICHEL L’HUILLIER studied Fine Arts and Art History<br />

in Strasbourg, Fra<strong>nce</strong> and has almost 20 years<br />

of experie<strong>nce</strong> working in stained glass and glass<br />

fusing. Although his primary focus is on architectural<br />

commissions using these two techniques, he also<br />

creates unique decorative fused glass objects. With<br />

great enthusiasm and humor, Michel has enjoyed<br />

sharing his passion for glass art forms with students in<br />

<strong>adult</strong> education and glass schools in the Boston area<br />

si<strong>nce</strong> 2004.<br />
