Can we explain music?
Can we name it, is it so specific?
I don’t know
I DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND
When it comes to music I’m with the flow
I don’t take a stand
If it should be described
One definition suits me fine
In Physics it has been defined
Resonance that’s what gets closest
It says:
“when a vibrating body induces another
body to vibrate”
When music is great
I can feel it from within
It twitches my guts
My inside flutters
And keeps me smiling
I love that feeling so much
I love music so much
I LOVE IT …
A Tribute To Those We Have Lost…
I know I am not speaking for each person, but 2016 seems to
have come in fast and blazing. It has already left us with
tremendous news stories, especially the lost artists. David
Bowie, Glenn Frey, Natalie Cole and Alan Rickman are four people
that have impacted many people’s lives through their work,
whether in music or as an actor. This is a tribute to their great
work, may it all live on forever.
David Bowie
First things first, the fact that scientists may have found a ninth
planet right after this mystical artist’s death is not lost on me.
No need to read those science articles. There is so much that
could be said about this man, but most of it is probably common
knowledge. He defined being different, and encouraged others
to find their own image. His music should be classified as a new
genre, but that is strictly opinion. He has won two Grammys,
three Brits, just to say the bare minimum. He turned down a
knighthood in 2003, that’s how much of a legend this man was
to our world. I think he gave his all in the music industry, but I
don’t think the world was ready to say goodbye to him just yet.
I think the biggest tribute to his legacy was looking at the charts
the day he unfortunately left this world, and his music was at
the top of the charts. I saw nearly every album and single on
the Top 100 list, and that fact alone was the way the world
parted ways with the legend. By letting his legacy live for one
day more.
10
www.AudiationMagazine.com

Glenn Frey
One of the founding members of The Eagles, and having a
successful solo career, Mr. Frey was a rock legend. He has won
six Grammys, five American Music Awards and was inducted
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. His music told
stories, and takes us on rock journeys. Although the Eagles have
had their own troubling past, Mr. Frey succumbed to the
pressures of the industry and told his tale.
11

Natalie Cole
Nothing is more beautiful than family talent and success. As the
daughter of Nat King Cole, she worked hard for one of the best
comebacks in musical history. Initially as an R&B singer, she was
making hits until her sales fell due to a drug addiction. But, she
came back as a pop artist with an album Everlasting, and a rerecorded
standard with her father which created
Unforgettable…with Love, her most successful album selling
millions of copies. She won several Grammy awards, and was
nominated for Latin Grammy Awards. She is now reunited with
her father, making beautiful music together.
Alan Rickman
“Talent is an accident of genes, and a responsibility.” Mr. Rickman
raised the bar for the actors, and posed as an inspiration to
aspiring talents. Love, Actually, Snape, and Die Hard are only a
few mentions of the great work he has left us to enjoy. The
incredible part about actors is how strongly their legacy can live
on, simply by watching their work on various media channels
Mr. Rickman left hours on hours of art, and coming from a major
Harry Potter fan, he is reunited with his love, Lily.
It may seem that the right to pay tribute to these great people
is only worthy of those with a similar level of greatness.
Remember that they all are essentially like us, normal people,
but they were just courageous enough to take their
interesting personalities and show them to the world. Take
the message from them that it is good to be unique, everyone
is special and has so much to give. Feel blessed that you do
share something with them, a love and understanding for
creativity and music that many others won't really know
unless they are creative themselves.
Sarah's Thoughts
The man, the legacy..
David Bowie.
The tributes and the
Brixton street party in
honour of him are amazing.
He continued
progressing with
the times
constantly and
still to his last
days left the
world with
music, and the
fact that it is
cool to be
different and
unique.
(Oh and just to
clarify, David Zowie
is very much alive!)
Mixing Up Different Music and EDM
Genres with New production
Techniques and Retro 80’s vibes
makes VHS Dreams one to watch
out for in 2016.
I first came across your name after
hearing yout fantastic track 'R.E.
D.M'. I found it to be a cross
between House with the chopped
vocals, Future House with the
baseline and Synthwave 80’s with
the chords and synths.. Could you
tell us how the track was made and
your thought process that went
into it?
I started this track upon a
realization I had while studying
some modern EDM tracks, that they
were focused on the bassline
instead of a traditional lead
melody. In fact the very bass was
also the lead melody. So after I
came across the bass notes for the
track I began building it centered
around it. I wanted to revive the
vibes of early-90's Stadium House
music, the feeling you have when
you're in a warehouse party circa
1993, washed over by green laser
lights and surrounded by glow
sticks and pink-haired girls.
How would you describe your
sound?
As modern dance music heavily
inspired from the past. I take
everything associated with the
extravagant music of the 80's and
early 90's and merge it with a
modern beat.
When did you first realise you had
a passion for retro and 80’s
sounding music?
I always loved 1980's music, but
began making music like that only
two years ago. The first tracks were
written for my personal pleasure,
having fun with my friends about
how much retro-sounding I could
go. At some point, and while I
discovered that others were doing
that kind of music too, I began
taking it more seriously and
worked on many tracks intensely
up to the point Future 80's Records
found me on Soundcloud. Then my
career as a retro-oriented artist
began.
How long have you been
www.AudiationMagazine.com

producing, and do you use mainly
software inside the box or
hardware as well?
I've been making music for 12
years now. At first it was French
House, then I moved to Trance and
Hardstyle and other genres before
my current style began taking
shape. I produce everything on a
PC. I've tried to use keyboards and
synthesizers but after a long time
trying to convince myself I like
them, I think I must admit I don't
have much interest in them. All my
keyboards are collecting dust in
the studio. I guess using a PC for
so long made my brain wired to
that process, that way of doing
things.
What tips would you give to young
aspiring producers just starting
out?
Always "steal" from successful
people. Which means to study how
professionals do things, how they
mix, how they create their sounds,
how they promote themselves.
Take any useful lessons and adjust
them/apply them to your own
situation and career.
Which city and country do you
currently live in, do you play live
and DJ much in your city and
anywhere else?
I spend a few months of the year
residing in Berlin, and a few in
Hartlepool, England but the
current plan is to move to Berlin
permanently. I don't DJ much
currently 'cause of being busy with
production projects but when I do
it's usually in Germany, my last
appearance was in Bremen on a
boat club, the MS Treue. Currently
I accept bookings for DJing in
Europe at vhs-dreams@hotmail.
com
What plans do you have for 2016 -
any cool stuff in the pipeline?
This year 'll be focusing on
collaborating with other artists and
producing remixes, rather making
an EP or something. The thought is
to expand my fanbase and musical
horizons. For the die-hard fans
there are lots of treats, my album
TRANS AM gets a re-release with
reworked mixing, and will also find
its way on the collectible cassette
format, while some freebies are on
the way too.
Is producing and DJing your full
time career.. And do you think it's
getting very difficult to make a
living from music these
days?
Yes, producing and DJing is my full
time occupation. I don't think
17

18
making a living from music is much
harder today than any other time
in history, that's just a common
myth. It all comes down to two
things, how exactly one lives and
whether he or she exploits their
own talents to the maximum or not.
If you are single, and live in a simple
manner without needless
expenses it is very easy to make a
living from music. But where most
producers fail is not selling all their
talents. Anything you can do can
be a source of income and you can
do many things within the context
of producing; offer mixing and
mastering services, DJ or perform
live, remix other people's tracks,
create sample packs for sample
companies, also start getting
revenue from radio, have sync
licenses for your music to be used
in films and TV... Do as much as you
can, it's hard work and sacrifice but
it pays off!
Could you tell our readers some
of your favorite plugins and which
Digital Audio Workstation you use
in you productions?
I'm an FL Studio fan since the
beginning. My favorite synth
plugins are TAL-U-NO-LX and
Synth1, both analog modeled with
a very special vintage sound, and
Refx Nexus which is a rompler with
amazing tweaking capabilities.
Other staples in my arsenal include
a tape compression emulator
called FerricTDS, Voxengo's
OldSkoolVerb and Fielding DSP
Reviver for giving extra volume on
bass sounds.
Someone Like You
I've never been so mad with someone,
Yet so madly in love with that someone too
I've never been so scared being with someone,
Yet seek comfort in that someone too
I've never ever had someone like you,
And never will I ever in a thousand years
I've never ever found someone so perfect,
Someone so beautiful...
To pe tann mwa
Can you hear me?
I used to hear these words when I was
at my parents house. It can sound like a
threat just reminding you of the way to
be but here it was just a question, a call.
Most of the time, the answer would have
been “No” as I always have my
headphones on and music loud while
busy with homeworks or design
projects. I have kept this habit and when
starting in a design company it got deep
rooted. I have experienced the use of
iTunes, live radios and possibility to
download lots of goodies. Music was
being played every day and could not
be missed as the application was
launched as the start of the OS.
Does listening to music have any
positive effect on my performances?
Yes I think as it sets me in comfortable
moods being happy, relaxed and at
times contributing to the fighting spirit.
I admit that I did spend some time to
look for the best songs but finally I came
up with a playlist which I would just
turned on shuffle mode. Some research
concluded that music does no good to
our cognitive performances even being
played low volume or in various styles
(Dolegui 2013). Eventually, music can’t
do harm to the soul, it can be at most
beneficial.
Having headphones on helped me as it
was a sign that I did not want to be
disturbed. Sometimes I get so focused
on my tasks that I would leave them on
without turning on the music. It
happened that some albums kept
playing in loop without me noticing the
change in tracks. My focus was on my
job. However, music is of great help
whenever I am not in the mood. Where
the day needs a kickstart or when I feel
off mood there is always a song that
brings me on track. It can sound like the
gym classes with heavy bass lines to
keep you moving. Here is my besties
which are my motivators:
1. A Riot In Heaven - Breaking day
2. Hans Zimmer - The Wheat & The
Battle
3. Hans Zimmer & Lisa Gerrard - Now
we are free
4. Susheela Raman - Nagummo
5. Ben Harper - There will be a light
6. Monty Alexander - I shot the sheriff
7. Bob Marley - Trenchtown Rock
8. David Vendetta - Unidos para
musica
9. Snarky puppy - Tio Macaco
10. Radiodread - Let down
11. Muse - Resistance
12. Limp Bizkit - Head for the
barricade
The Yoga Girl
I shall start this article by firstly
admitting defeat, my rebellion
against streaming services has now
come to an end. Being an avid yoga
enthusiast, once I found that Anjuna
Beats had this concept of music
playlists for the sessions, I just had
to check it out. So hello Spotify.
"We gathered, strengthened, listened
and received the gift of quiet. We
landed at home in our own hearts."
Further inspired by the set, they have
now created the compilation of
chilled atmospheric sounds via the
form of a Spotify playlist. 3 hours and
20 minutes of beautiful, melodic and
motivating music.
The essence of contentment
and a relaxed mind are
harnessed in the sounds.
From a subdued 'Immunity'
by Jon Hopkins, to the
more energetic 'If Only' by
Dusky, through to the
thought-provoking and
rhythmic 'Someday' by Virgil
Howe.
play.spotify.com/user/
aboveandbeyondofficial
As it turns out, Anjuna HQ have yoga
sessions each Tuesday and Above &
Beyond have delved into music for
yoga sessions.
In 2014 they released the Robot
Heart Yoga set after their yoga
practices in Black Rock
City.
long reveal of the right leg.
She looked ravishing with simplistic
make-up of dark red lips and a
glowing look. Her hair parted to the
side with a little volume and waves.
To finish, sparkling silver jewellery
paired nicely with the dress
detailing.
Ambreen emulates this look on Neev
statement piece with bold eyes and
a dark burgundy lip.
It's only the 2nd weekend
of the year and the south coast
of England is already gearing itself
up for the 1st important date of the
year (other than NYD) in any
underground music ravers diary,
the Bugged Out Weekender. The
one weekend of the year where the
seagulls of Bognor Regis share the
Butlin’s campus with clandestine
Ketamine ravers in search of a fun
filled weekend driven by the need
to be satisfied by bass driven
grooves.
of their 3 day bonanza with a stellar
line up that included industry
heavyweights Armand Van Helden,
Catz n Dogs, Hannah Wants, Heidi,
Bicep and DJ EZ joined by some of
the freshest acts breaking through
on the scene such as Jozef K, Bowler
and DJ Barely Legal.
Yes, Butlin’s is not the environment
that you would instantly associate
with underground dance music but
it’s hard to disagree with the notion
that they pull it off successfully
year in year out. This year was to
be no different with a line up that
highly appealed to 18-25 year olds
and an environment more than
comfortable for your seasoned
raver to let loose. The Bugged Out
Weekender celebrated its 5th year
As the Friday descended upon us,
party-goers from across the UK &
Ireland slowly began to fill up the
hotel rooms and chalets allocated
to them indulging in pre-drink
party sessions before the main
body of the action was to kick in.
The line up on the Friday was
exactly what was needed to get
things going, with B-Traits, Kurupt
FM, Groove Armarda, George
Fitzgerald, Paranoid London and
the legendary Joy Orbison b2b
Gerd Janson. No doubt that all
ravers, young and old alike, were
eagerly anticipating a memorable
set from DJ EZ, expecting to hear
classic EZ dishing out old skool
UKG with his quick hands
manipulating the sounds
distributed through the speakers.
Sadly we were disappointed as
rather than hearing what we were
looking forward to, we were
treated, well unwillingly given a
set that consisted of UKG infused
with Grime and subject to hearing
Drakes ‘Hotline Bling'. Definitely
not House & Techno but the ever
impressive Hannah Wants was on
hand to play saviour. Hannah was
overly impressive and she
delivered a set slightly different
from her usual sound. So much so
that even the hardest of die hard
techno heads would have to stand
up and say ‘I really enjoyed that’.
Things were in full flow and the rest
of the weekend had a lot to live up
to considering that Erol Aklan and
Boddika did what they did best and
left the Bugged Out massive
wanting and needing more. The
day time programmes consisted of
pool parties hosted by Jackmaster
on the Saturday and Ibiza Rocks
with Bicep respectively dropping
arty classics. Just to the side of
Burger King for those that were
aware Skream played a ‘secret’
evening set before joining
Jackmaster, Eats Everything,
Armand Van Helden for a ‘Bigger
than Jesus” showcase with each
artist going b2b and playing a solo
set. Eats Everything didn’t
disappoint. His bass driven style
which appeals to so many had the
room rocking from back to front,
ending his set with a truly fitting
David Bowie edit, paying homage
to the musical great that inspired
Kraftwerk, therefore he inspired
techno music.
If it wasn’t Kerri Chandler, the
award for best set of the weekend
(if there was one) would have gone
to Catz n Dogs. The Pets Recordings
label bosses took to the stage like
true bosses and performed a
masterclass. A solid hour and 45
mins of a style that oozed rhythmic
grooves and round basslines,
quality techno with a real Berlinesque
feel to it. To close the night
House & Techno great Kerri
Chandler completely bossed it. A
real ground hugging performance
picking up from where the the
queen of jackin house Heidi had
left off, taking the floor on a real
journey through sound. Kerri had
us all within the palm of his hands
as he stood a mere few meters
away from a room full of
dishevelled ravers who had,
through the sheer energy and
quality of the track selection,
mustered enough energy to party
right through to 3.30am on a
Monday morning ending the
Bugged out weekend on a high.
We’re already looking forward to
more of the same next year.
Jozef K is one of the UK’s fastest
rising stars who has respectively
earned himself a residency at
Sankey’s Manchester and Tribal
Sessions in London nightclub Fire.
We managed to catch up with jozef
K for a quick chat after warming the
room and opening for DJ Koze.
How did you get into the game,
how did you start?
When I was 17 I went to Sankeys
and I just thought, this is for me,
this is my domain and I want to be
a part of this. After one of the Tribal
Sessions nights, they gave out
flyers to do work experience in the
office, so I applied for that and
luckily I was chosen out of 200
applicants. I started working in the
office, and though I enjoyed
working and learning about the
industry I found it really difficult at
times - I always did it with the
ulterior motive of becoming a full
time DJ.
Who were the artists around at the
time that heavily influenced you?
Greg Vickers who was the main
resident at Tribal Sessions was
somebody always looked up to. At
the time I was listening to a lot of
Minimal Techno artists like
Stephen Bodzin, Magda, Marc
Romboy and DJ Koze, who I just
30
played before at the festival, was
really crazy to play before him
after originally being a huge fan.
Things are always changing
within time, do you prefer the old
school stuff or the new school
stuff?
Definitely I have ’thing’ for old
school, Detroit and Chicago type
records, I feel there is a lot of depth
to it. However, bluntly speaking I
like emotional music, and I can just
as likely find this in new school
track as much as older one.
Generally all DJs would prefer to
play a peak time set to a busy room
but in terms of having a range of
music to play would you prefer to
play a longer opening or a longer
closing set?
Would the long opening set
include some peak time in it? As it
does make some difference.
Lets say a 3hr opening set or a 3
hr closing set
Probably the closing set as I simply
love ending the night and think it
is one of my strengths as an artist.
I did the close last night at Fire. I
love to continue the vibe from the
previous DJ and then gradually
begin to play more emotionally.
The musical phrase would be that
I like to finish with a ‘diminuendo'.
That is probably my favourite time
to play, the last hour, when
everyone is slowly coming back to
reality and I can play some of the
records closest to me, that I feel are
too precious to play most of the
time.
Vinyl is making a big comeback, so
Vinyl or CDJs?
I originally learnt on vinyl but I have
become accustomed to using CDJs
as I have been using them for 7
years now. I use so many of the
functions of Rekordbox (USB
mixing software) that it would feel
like a step back to go back to mixing
records.
I feel that whatever medium a
person uses it is all good. I have no
hang ups with platform choice, I
don’t mind if somebody plays off a
laptop, I know often people speak
badly of laptop DJ’s using the sync
function and not learning the
fundamentals of DJing but I’m not
really bothered as long as the
music is right, that is all I care about.
I don’t really see what impact it has
on me if someone mixes using sync,
I just like music at the end of the
day.
BOW, how was your set for you?
31

Yeah it was wicked thanks - I took
the audience on a bit of a journey
- I started off mega deep and slowly
raised the intensity playing
through a range of emotions, I am
always careful to include a
crescendo into my sets. DJ rule
#4447 = always somehow build to
keep the audience engaged.
If you could put it down in a few
sentences, what makes a great DJ?
ADAPTABILITY - Reading a room. I
think to be a true DJ, you have to
have spent most of your life
listening to music to develop the
perfect sense for which record fits
the moment.
and for me the greatest exponent
of 303 on the planet. Mala - dude
is off the chain. Saw him spin after
my set at Dimensions Festival, his
music on the right sound system
(think it was Mungo’s HiFi but don’t
quote me) just slays me. The
combination of depth and
aggression on the right system is
just ill, I would very much like to
watch him again. Also I think my
housemate, Fazzy Fresh has an
amazing music selection, we both
want to do a set b2b picking tracks,
but I mix all the records - I would
actually love that, promoters hit
me up.
Who are your 3 acts to look out for
in 2016?
32
Who are your Favourite DJ’s?
Dixon’ has to be my number 1. He
has been my favourite DJ since I
was 20 years old and now to see
him doing so well in the RA polls
and receiving all these accolades
great! I learned a lot as younger DJ
from how he structured sets. Tin
Man (live) is an amazing performer
Winter Son, Tin Man + Bvdub
What would you like to happen for
yourself in 2016?
Achieve grade 1 piano and read
more books. I am having real a
struggle reading ATM, I think too
much time DJing, on Facebook and
producing has warped my
concentration span - I will get it
back though.
I was always searching for my role
within music, and everything clicked
into place when MySpace and social
media kicked off. I started working
with an Australian band called
Blackchords they were just starting
out and knew they had to be on
MySpace but had no idea how to make
it work for them. In my professional
life I am a marketing strategist,
helping brands use sponsorship
more effectively in music and sports,
it became clear that the discipline of
the brand marketing world could be
applied to the band marketing world.
My role was to help bands think more
like brands in their approach to
marketing and promotion. I started
managing social media for
Blackchords before becoming their
UK manager. So the first incarnation
of RCM was very marketing focused,
but as I started managing Blackchords
I realised the need for a blog. If I just
talked about one band all the day,
people got bored so my logic was why
not write about hundreds of bands
and build an audience of new music
fans so when I do want to write about
Blackchords there would be an
established audience of people that
actually wanted to listen. So the blog
was born. We currently attract around
6,000 visitors per month. Last year we
had visitors from 185 different
countries. The volume of music I now
receive is almost overwhelming and
shows me there is a need for what I
do, there are so many incredible
artists out there who just don't get the
exposure and support their music
deserves.
Music is my closest ally and best
friend, there is rarely a moment when
I don't have music by my side. It
provides a near constant soundtrack
to my life and everything I do. My
appetite for music is constant, and I
5&Dime ft Lauren Mason - Hold On
Sexy Deep House with Lauren's strong-minded nature
seeping through.
Coming forth in its original coating, a dub mix, and
the sought-after Rare Candy remix, ‘Hold On’ has
set its sights on taking your breath away. Conjured
by UK based DJs and producers 5&Dime, it’s the
lush chords, sweet beats, and marvelous vocal
tones of Lauren Mason that win you over in the
blink of an eye. Now realize that Rare Candy’s
classic House interpretation by no means less
impressive and you know you’ve found a new set of
favorite tracks.
Kinetica - This Is It
Hard-hitting Trance easing into a melodic rhythm.
Irish trance favorite Kinetica drops some fierce trance
on the In Trance We Trust imprint. His new tune
contains fiery beats and a moving melody, resulting
Milen - The Cloud
Our first release of 2016 is spearheaded by Austrian
producer Milen. There is a melancholic undertone
throughout driven by a vigorous beat.
Milen describes 'The Cloud' as an uplifting
trance track, filled with ancient
melodies and a euphoric
drop.
'The project started in 2014
when I got the idea for those Egyptian
chords and from time to time they progressed
more and more into this trance track. From the first day
of production until the final product, the sound evolved
and changed a lot and I'm really happy with the end result.'
A dream-like state is invisioned, this is how you make me feel. This
beautiful and mysterious essence reflects intriguingly across the
sounds and visuals. The track is accompanied by a hazy, vintage hued
video of sepia and black & white.
Our Anthem are Italian DJ/Producers Moreno and Mirko. The
Milanese duo make and play music around Italy as well as producing
the 'Shout Out' secret parties in their home town. Their style is a
mixture of sounds and genres ranging from old school hip-hop and
house to deep house and techno with everything in between.
Max Chapman - Catch Me If You Can
Dark, moody techno rising to gripping tones.
January sees Max Chapman deliver his debut L.P via Kerri
Chandler’s MadTech Records, titled ‘Catch Me If You Can’ and
comprising ten original tracks from the UK artist.
Max Chapman has come a long way since his debut release was
picked up by Pete Tong on Radio 1 in 2011, since then he’s
gone on to cement himself as a driving force in the UK’s
contemporary house output. Releasing material via the likes of
Lost Records, Lower East and of course MadTech where his
debut long player drops here, also his very own Resonance
Records imprint which has continued to grow in strength over
its active three years. With his first L.P on the way, remixes and
original material for Hot Creations, Knee Deep In Sound, Non
Stop and Snatch, plus a U.S tour penciled it’s evident that 2016
is going to be a big year for Max.
Lost & Found - Never Goodbye EP
A blend of modern fragmented structures along with a nod to the
oldschool.
This latest release on OneFold Digital comes from producing talent
Lost & Found, and if it’s fresher than air sounds you’re looking for,
then you've struck gold with this three-track gem.
First up, title track Talking Reckless, featuring Sophie, whose
hypnotic looping vocals melt into the track’s steady, punching beat,
creating a sound you can’t help but get lost in. ‘I like hearing myself
talk, one of my greatest pleasures’, the lyrics muse, and once you’ve
heard her dulcet tones on this record, we’re sure, like us, you’ll
agree.
The EP continues with a dirtier, dance floor geared track, Hot 4 Cash.
Layers of deep, pulsating bass, distorted vocal loops and ominous
build ups make up this distinctly after-hours sound. And continuing
into the realm of murky, underground house, final track Modern
Prometheus opens with a hair raising, cage-rattling build up,
breaking into a solid, main-room worthy beat. Distant melodies and
crashing peaks make for an absolute roller coaster of a record that
would be sure to tear up any dance floor.
An innovative, forward thinking EP, that’s got us itching to hear
more from Lost & Found.
An interesting blend of cultural
sounds with a modern influence.
British-born Indian electro
producer Karsh Kale has spent
the last two decades zigzagging
the world, headlining
major festivals and spinning
records at the White House for
Barack Obama. Now, the
culmination of his planetary
library can be heard on his
reflective fifth studio album
‘UP’, out on 29 January 2016 via
Six Degrees Records.
A pioneering figure in defining
the Asian Underground genre by
mixing classical Indian folk with
ambient electro rock/pop, this
New York raised multiinstrumentalist
has travelled
between Brooklyn and India
over fifty times. Criticallyacclaimed
for his tabla
drumming and film composition,
Kale delivers both awe-inspiring
cinematic and visual rhythms in
this transformational album.
Klient - Fragment
Dark and dirty bass with hints of raw
sweetness.
From the makers of Slime Recordings
comes a little label for loud music – BOSS
MODE. With a focus on bass-heavy
sounds from all genres, the imprint is
gearing up to deliver some incredible
music in 2016. Kicking things off in
considerable style, we proudly present
the first salvo in this experiment from
KLIENT. The last few years have seen the
Scottish & Polish production duo go from
strength to strength, with releases on
Trouble & Bass, Tessellate and 877
gaining support from scene leaders such
as DJ Zinc, Roska, My Nu Leng, Shadow
Child and many more. For their Boss
Mode debut they deliver two
devastating cuts of bassweight science
that defy classification, mutating garage,
dubstep and house into something that
is uniquely their own sound.
‘Fragment’ leads the charge with a
malevolent beat that will give ravers
palpitations, combining buzzsaw bass
stabs with dissonant atmospherics to
devastating effect. ‘Shelter’ switches
things up with a modulated lead melody
and diva vocal that drip feeds the twisted
aesthetics of Tech Step circa 1997
through a modern day filter into
something equally as raw and rugged.
Both tracks not only provide serious
firepower for any dancefloor, but also
proves Klient are ones to watch this year.
Shinobi ft LDizz - Like I Do
A raw lyrical creation taking you back to the underground vibe.
Despite London being hailed as the ‘home of grime’, MCs and
producers from outside the capital are moving in close to steal
the crown and it seems that Birmingham, Manchester,
Nottingham and Sheffield are the cities that everyone has their
eyes on.
The track sees Shinobi spitting bars over a merky Sticky Blood
instrumental that draws on the early days of grime, made up of
a racing backline and jerking synth fuelled beat. Shinobi’s
confident bars match his effortless delivery and LDizz slaps
down an energetic verse that collides with Shinobi’s, resulting
in you screw facing and head bopping along. The video, shot in
black and white, is set against a city backdrop, matching the
back-to-basics, raw vibe of the track. Expect to hear more from
Shinobi over what is going to be a great year for grime in the
Steel City.
Phebe Edwards - Inside Of You
An instant comparison can be made with Phebe Edwards to
Mariah Carey in the sweet tone of the vocals. Phebe adds another
depth of rhythm and soul to the track, and then comes a
pasionate main section.
North Londoner Phebe Edwards is an exceptional R&B singer/
songwriter compared to Mary J Blige, Fantasia Burrino and
Aretha Franklin. She has toured, performed and recorded with
some of the industry’s greats including James Brown, Adele,
Jessie J, Donna Summer and Rita Ora. Phebe’s debut single Say
Suttn charted at number 14 in the ITunes RnB chart within
hours of its release in November 2013. In 2014 her second
single The One pushed her fanbase to over 12k.
‘Inside of You tells the very relatable story of two people trying
to save a fading relationship. It gives an insight into my
personal relationships and the heartache I’ve had to work
through in my life.’ Phebe Edwards
MaHA Rocks - The Same Old
Thing
One of the first songs I heard
from the Ukrainian artist, and
now finally a video has been
created for it. The first few
visuals of a girl, in quaint
traditional surroundings,
holding onto a box of records
being of MaHA Rocks'. We
move to an aerial view, the
She walks through the woods
telling the story, whilst the
Georgie Bird - Walls
Sublime vocal highs, accompanied by a beautiful composition.
Georgie Bird is a new singer/songwriter who is making fans in all
the right places. Her debut single 'Easy To Go' was supported by
BBC Introducing and her new single ‘Walls’ has proved so popular
Dpower ft Olivia Louise - Work It
A tough male persona clashes again the seductive nononsense
female.
D Power premiered his 2nd single ‘Work It Out’ ft. Olivia
Louise, from his forthcoming debut album ‘ZION’
exclusively over on SBTV. The single produced by Audio
Slugs gives a refreshing take on Grime with D Power
letting the hard beat intertwine with the sweet vocals
and his own lyrics riding the beat.
Teasing us with little clips of the video up to it’s release
got fans hyped for the official video which sees the two
talking about working out a relationship, with the woman
saying she doesn’t want to work it out.
Young Couple Busk Folk
Music for Folk of
Brighton
Brighton is known for its diverse
music scene with its venues being
graced by streams of musical
talent. The Hoosiers playing at The
Brighton Centre, and the Foo
Fighters rocking Concorde.
However there is a group of
musicians that are passed by every
day outside train stations and
ignored in the subway, the buskers
of Brighton who are about the get
the recognition they deserve. I
paved the streets of Brighton
myself interviewing different
buskers from all different walks of
life and I came across a couple
whose music is so unique and
different I couldn’t help myself but
interview them.
The couple are Phoebe Butler 24
from Greenwich and Charlie Law
22 from Ipswich who are also
known as The Cabineers. The
couple have been together touring
East Sussex living, sleeping and
storing their equipment in their car
gracing the passing folk of
Hastings, Brighton and Hove with
their jaunty and catchy Folk Music.
Phoebe who studied Classical
Music at Trinity Larben College in
Greenwich plays the recorder, that
musical instrument that we all
dislike has made a welcome
comeback in their Folk Music.
Charlie who
studied Music Technology at
Kingston University plays Guitar
and teamed together they make a
beautiful duo that’s easy on the
ears. Phoebe Butler said “My
family have always been into
Music which influenced my
decision to want to learn to play
the recorder, I started learning
when I was 5 and I have been
playing ever since. My family have
always supported me both
financially and emotionally, my
mum brought me all my equipment
and even gave me her old
recorder.” Charlie Law has been
playing the Guitar for 8 years and
said “My student loan when I was
at University is what financed all
of my equipment.”
"...a group of musicians
that are passed by
every day..."
few amongst them are; Folk East
Festival, Home Grown Festival and
the International Youth Arts
Festival.
This couple teamed together make
for a very interesting musical duo
and their sound is so catchy and
makes for interesting listening.
They both plan to continue busking
and are hoping to secure some
small acoustic sets around
Brighton which I for one am looking
forward to. They are a fresh sound
for 2016 and definitely shine when
it comes to individuality I wish
them all the luck with pursuing
their dream for a career in music.
soon is:
Aside from busking the streets of
East Sussex the couple’s main
music platform is a folk collective
called The Cabineers which has
toured the UK as far as Penzance
and Glasgow. They also performed
a session on BBC Wales before
supporting Turin Brakes at
Glastonbury 2014 which is the
couple’s biggest musical
achievement so far. They have also
played at some smaller festivals a
