history. There are still many items left on the 

table for gay rights. As we continue to grow 

politically and reach new levels of equality, we 

must remember that many in the gay community 

have yet to find their home. 

There Is No Sex Education for Us! 

Coming out or safe ways to enjoy anal sex, 

using a condom the fun of dental dams and 

other practices Sex education is still all about 

them. 

Medical health care is lacking! 

Just because we have the DAP around the 

nation from clinics to primary care medical 

schools spent a total of zero hours on LGBT 

medical training, matching how much of a 

priority it is. Things like not taking birth control 

because there is no risk of pregnancy may 

actually increase the risk of breast cancer. 

Labels or the lack of them or the fear of being 

labeled gay, gay hate, crime and all that bigotry 

are the normal outcrops of a community 

struggling to fit in to a newly accepting world. 

If you happen to be a stereotypical gay person, 

its going t be great. But if you’re not, the 

lack of acceptance hurts will hurt and make 

you feel worse. This was a lot harder before in 

meat markets, but Internet has made it much 

easier. Bars have made big strides to be more 

welcoming to all people.

Palm Springs Modernism And Art Fair week 

During Valentine weekend a major international 

art and design event was taking place 

in Palm Springs. Modernism Week and 

the Palm Springs Art Fair attract galleries, 

collectors, art, design, and architectural 

enthusiasts from all over the United States 

and foreign countries. 

Modernism Week is in it’s tenth year as a 

major event in Palm Springs. This year the 

epicenter, or CAMP, for directing the activities 

of the event, was located in the former 

Alley imports building on South Palm 

Canyon. Modernism events included, tours 

of mid century buildings and homes, talks 

by architectural icons, displays, 

of home furnishings, including, furniture, 

appliances, decorative accessories and art. 

Included this year was the Christopher 

Kennedy Show House. The house, located 

off of South Palm Canyon, was a project 

directed by Christopher Kennedy. Kennedy 

is a popular designer working in New York, 

Los Angeles, and Palm Springs. This project 

was unique and involved several designers. 

Each designer was assigned a room in 

the house. The challenge was to design the 

room utilizing their individual creativity, 

but to correlate to the overall inclusive design 

arrangement of the entire house. 

Palm Springs Convention Center. This 

year there were galleries featuring artist 

from throughout the United States, and 

including, London, the UK, Venezuela, and 

Argentina. 

The art was a broad range of media, including 

2 and 3 dimensional works. One 

interesting, multidimensional, display 

was located in the lobby of the convention 

center. It was titled “Suspended Boulder”, 

and was the creation of Stephen Webster. 

We will have a feature article on Stephen 

in a later issue. The variety of contrasting 

art styles featured by the various galleries, 

is displayed in the examples of the two 

photos included in this article. An acrylic 

painting by Sam Francis, untitled, provided 

by the Nathan Novak Gallery, is an 

example of mid century abstraction. The 

other example is a graphite drawing, titled, 

“Talons”, by Kerry Brooks, shown by Arcadia 

Contemporary Gallery, as an example 

of hyper-realism almost more realistic than 

a photograph. 

We are fortunate to live in Palm Springs 

where art, architecture and creativity are all

artists who will showcase live demonstrations from sand sculpting to landscape art, 

abstract, oil, acrylic, watercolor, glass, texture, scrap metal art including recycled and 

reclaimed materials. A portion of the proceeds from sales day of event will benefit the 

Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center. Participating in the Inaugural event are artists Jeff 

Sherman, Peter Mikulak, Karen Brobeck, Tom Bianchi, Lila Fulton, Jim Turbin, Natalia 

Astankina, Zoë Ann Fischer and Michael Angelo. 

The first 25 attendees will receive a free raffle ticket to win a prize from the artists. 

Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the day and light refreshments will be provided. 

The showroom will be open to browse the artist work and all art will be priced at 

twenty five percent off. “The concept to host a live event monthly is to support the 

local community and our resident artists” states Decorators Depot owner David E. 

Scott.

LGBT Heroes George Washington Carver 

George Washington Carver was born into 

slavery in southwestern Missouri during the 

Civil War. A sickly child, Carver threw himself 

into education and was admitted to Iowa’s 

Simpson College as the only African-American 

student, eventually joining the faculty 

after graduating. He would then head the 

agriculture department at Tuskegee University, 

where he devised agricultural innovations, 

including new uses for peanuts and sweet 

potatoes, His work paved the way for modern 

advances in biofuels . Gay rumors followed 

Carver at Tuskegee, which were not dispelled 

when he and his research assistant, Austin 

Wingate Curtis, Jr., began living together.
