2016 ACPA ANNUAL CONVENTION
INCLUSION AT #ACPA16
ACPA – College Student Educators International actively promotes
and recognizes principles of fairness, equity, and social justice in
relation to, and across, intersections of race, age, color, disability, faith,
religion, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, sex, sexual orientation,
social class, economic class, ethnicity, gender identity/expression,
and all other identities represented among our diverse membership.
By appreciating the importance of inclusion, we acknowledge that the
collective and individual talents, skills, and perspectives of members,
constituent groups, and partners foster a culture of belonging,
collaborative practice, innovation, and mutual respect. ACPA seeks
to empower and engage professionals, scholars, and partners in
actions that productively contribute to accomplishing the goals of our
association.
ACPA values equity and inclusion. Should you experience a situation
where we might improve, please reach out to any ACPA Staff member
or the Director of Equity & Inclusion. For assistance on site at
Convention, please call or text (202) 780-9243 or email inclusion@
acpa.nche.edu. For more information on ACPA’s Bias Response
Protocol, please visit convention.myacpa.org/montreal2016/inclusion/.
ABORIGINAL & INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
Terminology about Indigenous peoples is more than just words, and
it differs across countries and cultures. The landscape of terminology
is also not static. Words that are acceptable to one group may be
offensive to others. For example, the term “Aboriginal “ is a legal
identity that may not be a preferred term by the Indigenous peoples
themselves. To help #ACPA16 participants learn more about the
historical and political contexts behind the terminology used in
Canada, we have prepared a brief glossary for your reference on
the Convention website at: convention.myacpa.org/montreal2016/
aboriginal-indigenous-peoples/. #ACPA16 features programs for
learning more about Indigenous peoples, and we hope you will take
full advantage of these resources.
