This race, begun in 1987, was the first ever run at any Temecula vineyard. It features a 2K/5K/10K race and will be held on April 23rd at the Maurice Car’rie Winery and Vineyard, which also is a sponsor, as well as Pechanga Resort and Casino. The race is a major fundraiser for the Temecula Sunrise Rotary Club, and proceeds benefit all the youth and community projects the club undertakes each year, including literacy programs at Vail and Temecula elementary schools, the Chaparral Interact service club, Temecula Teacher and Student of the Month recognitions and much more. March 2016 THE VALLEY BUSINESS JOURNAL www.TheValleyBusinessJournal.com 13 Michelle’s Place Announces Two New Executive Board Members Michelle’s Place Breast Cancer Resource Center announces the appointment of two new members of its Executive Board: Leslie Doherty and Brenda Ruocco. “Our newest Board members embody the spirit of community and bring talent, expertise and energy to the Board at Michelle’s Place. We are very fortunate to have them by our side as we continue our mission to empower individuals and families impacted by breast cancer,” said Kim Goodnough, Executive Director. Leslie Doherty is Owner/President of Leslie A. Doherty & Company, Certified Public Accountant, located in Murrieta. Doherty has over a dozen years of experience volunteering on committees and as a board member for several local non-profit organizations, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Dorland Mountain Arts Colony, All From the Heart, Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce, and is a founding board member of The Seth Foundation. “The impact Michelle’s Place has been able to make directly with those that they serve impresses me. My goal when joining a board of directors is to serve…I am eager to do what I can to assist,” said Doherty. Brenda Ruocco is the Director of Wholesale for South Coast Winery in Temecula. Prior to South Coast Winery, she worked for several investment banks including, Sallie Mae, American Security Bank, and Met Life. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration from the College of Charleston, South Carolina, and has several years of experience in marketing, sales and event planning. “Having been a recipient of Michelle’s Place’s embrace, education, encouragement and emotional support, I am honored to serve on the board to help build brand awareness and fundraise to ensure that the mission to help support those living with breast cancer thrive for many years to come,” said Ruocco. Brenda is a breast cancer survivor who has been a valuable resource for Michelle’s Place building awareness through community partnerships with Stater Brothers Charities, Erik Turner, as well as all South Coast Winery customers who purchase Rock the Pink wines and beyond. Michelle’s Place is a 501c3 non-profit organization providing services and resources to individuals and families impacted by breast cancer. He lives with his wife Rachael, nurse manager for Redlands Community Hospital, and three children; two in high school and one serving our country in the US Navy. Affiliations: I have been affiliated with numerous networking groups, the California Chiropractic Association and American Chiropractic Association. Since opening OsteoStrong Murrieta, I am active as a regional developer with OsteoStrong Corporate and a Certified Peer Educator for American Bone Health. Business Philosophy: My business philosophy has always been “people first.” My priority is maintaining my skills and education at the highest level in order to offer the care and compassion our patients have relied on for more than two decades. We have implemented state of the art procedures and equipment in order to offer the highest quality of care. I figure that when someone feels they are “good enough, they most likely aren’t,” so my goal is to never stop learning. Sports: I have taken an interest in many sports; both seasonal and year round. Other sports include surfing, mountain biking, moto cross, snowboarding and weight lifting. A recent passion, and one which I plan on participating in for some time, is Brazilian Jui Jitsu. Nothing is more satisfying helping someone truly change their life for the better. Mentors: While there are many individuals whom I respect and admire, my father and grandfather are truly the ones I admire most—their honesty, integrity and work ethic were greater than anyone else I have come in contact with. Favorite Reading: I actually enjoy reading articles pertaining to my field; research related as well as health and fitness. When I am not reading items related to work, I will read from the only book that gives me strength and perseverance, the Bible. Resume: I completed a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology followed by my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1992. After three years of providing care in Temecula, I moved to Murrieta, where I have continued to practice. I have Dr. Derek Albrecht always had a love for helping those in pain and with functional and postural issues. For that reason, I dedicated many extra years learning advanced treatment protocols and techniques necessary to correct these issues. Recently I was awarded the Institute of American Bone Health Peer Educator Certificate, enabling me to teach trainers, therapists and the public proper methods for dealing with osteoporosis in their daily lives.
