Washington has built a reput<strong>at</strong>ion for<br />
concentr<strong>at</strong>ed red wine with expressive<br />
flavors, all due to rich soils and an ideal<br />
grape growing clim<strong>at</strong>e. The Harms<br />
bro<strong>the</strong>rs started <strong>the</strong> Christopher Michael<br />
Winery in 2009. Their excellence in<br />
winemaking is anchored in <strong>the</strong>ir ability<br />
and talent to source superior grapes from<br />
a number of key sustainable growers. The<br />
fruit m<strong>at</strong>ters <strong>the</strong> most and becomes <strong>the</strong><br />
heart and soul of this good cabernet. After<br />
18 months aging in French oak barrel, <strong>the</strong><br />
blending begins. Tasting and selecting<br />
only <strong>the</strong> best barrels produces <strong>the</strong><br />
Christopher Michael 2012 Cabernet. By <strong>the</strong><br />
way, this 2012 bottling turned out to be<br />
<strong>the</strong> best vintage in Washington for quite a<br />
few years. I like <strong>the</strong> fine-tuned arom<strong>at</strong>ics<br />
th<strong>at</strong> accent <strong>the</strong> wine’s personality from <strong>the</strong><br />
very first sniff. Solid fruit flavors of black<br />
raspberry and red currant and juicy plum<br />
are not hard to find. Lots of soft anise seed,<br />
toasty cedar and vanilla last into <strong>the</strong> finish.<br />
Tannin is firm yet balanced into <strong>the</strong> fruit<br />
layer. A truly refined Cabernet with all <strong>the</strong><br />
