Founded in 1992 by Bill<br />
Powers, Powers Winery has<br />
been <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> forefront of<br />
sustainable farming and<br />
winemaking, having Drew Fuller<br />
established <strong>the</strong> first<br />
Certified Organic vineyard in <strong>the</strong> st<strong>at</strong>e. Bill,<br />
his son Greg, and Mickey Dunne (who<br />
happens to be <strong>the</strong> uncle of Surdyk’s C<strong>at</strong>ering<br />
Manager, Emily Dunne) are passion<strong>at</strong>e about<br />
<strong>the</strong> unique qualities of <strong>the</strong> single vineyards<br />
th<strong>at</strong> help form <strong>the</strong> heart of <strong>the</strong>ir Reserve<br />
Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine hails from<br />
sou<strong>the</strong>ast Washington in <strong>the</strong> Horse Heaven<br />
Hills AVA. Champoux Vineyard was planted<br />
in 1972 and is currently owned by Paul<br />
Champoux and four winery partners: Powers,<br />
Andrew Will, Quilceda Creek, and Woodward<br />
Canyon. These owners represent some of <strong>the</strong><br />
most famous and exclusive wines of <strong>the</strong><br />
Pacific Northwest, and th<strong>at</strong> pedigree is<br />
certainly reflected here. The wine was aged<br />
for thirty months in 75% new French oak<br />
barrels. It is powerful, yet clearly displays<br />
restraint and elegance. Perfectly balanced<br />
flavors of black fruits, subtle vanilla, and ripe<br />
plum indic<strong>at</strong>e <strong>the</strong> quality of <strong>the</strong> fruit. Lush<br />
dusty tannins are balanced with a nice touch<br />
of oak, with enough acidity to help form a<br />
seemingly endless finish. This is stunning<br />
