McManis Family Vineyards,<br />
in <strong>the</strong> San Joaquin valley just<br />
south of Lodi in central<br />
California, is a rel<strong>at</strong>ively new<br />
winery in an area not famous<br />
for its wines. To judge by <strong>the</strong><br />
work th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> folks here are<br />
doing, th<strong>at</strong> is about to<br />
change. Across <strong>the</strong> range of<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir wines, <strong>the</strong>y make<br />
wonderful, approachable,<br />
every day wines th<strong>at</strong> show<br />
beautiful varietal character.<br />

Soft and floral with a very pretty citrus blossom nose.<br />

from vineyard to winery, is one of California’s<br />
most environmentally conscious. Although<br />
Cline’s wines are not “certified<br />
organic”, <strong>the</strong>y follow organic principles in<br />
<strong>the</strong> vineyards th<strong>at</strong> are more strict than<br />
many of <strong>the</strong> certific<strong>at</strong>ion standards; and in<br />
<strong>the</strong> winery, <strong>the</strong>y have recently converted to<br />
solar power and now sell energy back to<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir former provider. All of this shows in<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir wines, which are among <strong>the</strong> purest<br />
expressions of <strong>the</strong>ir varieties th<strong>at</strong> we know!<br />
