Meet you at
Written by Sammi Nice
Meet Karen and Rosie
from iambarre...
I’m always more than willing to attend any
fitness classes or hear of a new craze, so I
was really excited to be introduced to Karen
and Rosie from iambarre. I danced for many
years when I was younger, so I was hoping
it would all come back to me. I can’t say
this was the case... it was much harder than
I remembered, but thankfully I was in safe
hands!
iambarre, formerly Lotte Berk Cambridge,
run a comprehensive timetable of classes
to suit all levels and ages from beginners to
the more advanced. The classes are all low
impact, but high intensity and are designed
to give you a lean-looking physique similar
to that of a dancer. Classes take the ‘barre’
elements of traditional ballet training and
incorporate these into a 60-minute session
of resistance work, core stability and intense
targeted routines.
“We have such a wide range of ages who
come along to our classes. The youngest is
15 but we also have ladies in their 70s! It’s
great to see how far they’ve come and what
they can do now!” Karen told me.
“We have something for everyone and most
people have no previous ballet or dance
experience.”
Rosie Cameron & Karen Taylor
There was a great buzz between the closeknit
class and I have to say ‘hats off’ to the
ladies, who all held the intense and deep
burning movements for a lot longer than I
could! They raved about the classes and said
how great it was for all-over muscle tone
and definition and I can certainly see why.
Since opening, Karen has found the demand
for her classes overwhelming. She now
teaches over 20 classes a week, all of which
get booked up far in advance. In order to
be able to satisfy demand, Karen and Rosie
are looking to expand their team. Karen is
looking for a couple of new recruits that she
can train in the ‘iambarre’ method to help
manage and teach some additional classes
each week. “It would be great to have
someone join us who has previous dance
experience and a good grounding in ballet
techniques. A yoga or pilates teacher would
also work, but then again, so would a keen
exerciser. If they are as passionate about
dance and fitness as we are, that would be
perfect! We have a wonderful, loyal and
hardworking existing client base.”
