foundry that made parts for large machinery makers such
as Caterpillar. Soon after that, he and Mom found a home
on the outskirts of Mishawaka on a dead- end cinder road
with three homes. Ours was the smallest—​handmade and
less than a thousand square feet. But it was the house I grew
