KLIA and klia2
If you're bored and unsure of what to do with all that time
waiting for your flight at Kuala Lumpur International Airport
(KLIA) or klia2, why not download and read a free eBook?
Passengers at both airports will now have access to these
electronic books which can be downloaded via 40 bluetooth
beacons placed strategically within KLIA Main Terminal and klia2.
The eBooks are downloaded through the use of bluetooth
beacon signals which work on the principles of geo-fencing
micro-location technology.
The inaugural eBook beacon infrastructure was first demonstrated
on 23 April 2016 in conjunction with World Book Day 2016 during an
event in klia2
It communicates with
passengers’ smartphone
applications, allowing them
to access a special virtual
library of eBooks.
Currently, travellers in KLIA
Main Terminal have more
than 800 eBook titles from
various genres in English,
Malay and Mandarin.
Each passenger is able
to borrow a maximum
of two titles which once
downloaded, can be kept
in electronic devices for a
period of two days. Once
downloaded, the eBook can
be read without an internet
connection.
The facility is a first of its kind
in the world and was made
possible with assistance from
Malaysia Airports, Multimedia
Super Corridor, e-Sentral and
Perbadanan Kota Buku.
