There's a
special day
for paper
airplanes?
If there are days such as National Rambutan Day
which pays homage to the hairy and popular
Southeast Asian fruit or National Unicorn Day
with the mythological creature being Scotland's
official animal, National Airplane Day does seem
to be less absurd, doesn't it?
Ever had a situation when a classroom was immensely
boring and you try your best to quietly tear a piece of
paper from a notebook and make a paper airplane out
of it and soon after launch it into the air having it fly
around the classroom much to the ire of your teacher?
Ever thought what song would fit the situation as you
see the paper plane gliding lazily through the air?
American singer R. Kelly's 'I Believe I Can Fly'
seems apt.
National Paper
Airplane Day falls on May
26 and is an unofficial
celebration predominantly in
America. There are variations for the
celebration which include as a prelude
to Memorial Day which happens to be
the beginning of summer travelling and
encouraging everyone to put down
their gadgets, get off the Internet
and toss paper airplanes
around with family and
friends.
And if you do not know how to fold a basic plane, here's how:
Picture this. The plane sets off, swooping through your
classmates' hair and misses an attempt by your teacher
to grab hold of it with this tune playing in the background:
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
Several minutes of interruption. After a dose of fingerwagging
and a scrunched up paper in the wastepaper
basket, the class resumes.
Brings back old memories, don't they? Why not re-create
a little fun and break the boredom buster at school or
work on May 26 which happens to be National Paper
