Utter Inn Hotel, VASTERAS, Sweden
If you ever wondered what a goldfish feels like sitting and
swimming inside a tiny bowl, circling around and staring at
all the faces that looks, points or taps on the bowl, you might
soon be able to know. Just book a stay at this inn. The brainchild
of Swedish artist and sculptor Mikael Genberg, this inn is a
single room that contains twin beds and a table with windows
allowing you to watch the sea life outside your room or perhaps
allowing the sea life to look at you.
Utter Inn Hotel lies three metres below the surface of Lake
Malaren in Vasteras and guests are provided with an inflatable
boat and instructions. If you wish to explore, an inflatable
canoe allows you to visit nearby uninhabited islands. As for
food, well, bring your own or the deluxe version will have
someone bringing you food. It’s the perfect place if you’re
looking for peace and relaxation as you’re also allowed to
sunbathe atop the red house, through which you enter the
room below.
The Manta Resort, Pemba Island,
Zanzibar
Swedish artist Mikael Genberg has done it again! This floating
hotel room is his creation and part of the Manta Resort in
Zanzibar. Booking a couple of nights here is perfect for
honeymooners or the next JK Rowling looking for inspiration.
If love and inspiration does not come after sleeping in an
underwater bedroom with tropical creatures swimming around,
sunbathing on the top deck or stargazing void of light pollution
at night, something is clearly in the wrong – with you.
The room is located in the Blue Hole - an anomaly in the coral
reef clearly visible from The Manta Resort terrace. It is
approximately 250 metres off shore, falls to 12 metres deep
at high tide and is roughly 50 metres wide in diameter. This
is quite literally and figuratively the perfectly protected spot
for your floating underwater room.
