Key Points:<br />

There have been changes to the process for managing FOI requests and more visibility of the<br />

process externally is planned via a publications scheme and the inclusion of additional FOI<br />

material on the Department’s website.<br />

Detail:<br />

Freedom of Information<br />

Under the terms of the Ministerial direction order, Freedom of Information (FoI) requests are<br />

processed by individual Assistant Principals or Principal Officers in each division within the<br />

Department. The FoI unit comprising of 4 people has the responsibility for processing receipt,<br />

allocation and information management processes around the operation of the FOI system.<br />

Changes were introduced in 2015 in the processing and information management around FOI<br />

requests which has improved the visibility of the process and the information available to<br />

management. The Department has engaged with a training programme for decision makers<br />

and all decision makers will receive FoI training in 2016.<br />

The Department received 413 FoI requests in 2015 (see attached). There had been some<br />

delays in processing requests in 2015 due to the increase in the number of and complexity of<br />
