3.2.2 Financial Services Division Description This Division is responsible for the development of national and EU policy and legislation in relation to the financial services sector, with the exception of the domestic banking sector. Responsibilities include policy and legislation in relation to insurance, funds, financial markets and international banking. FSD represents Ireland at a range of EU working groups and also manages the transposition of EU directives. The Division is also responsible for anti-money laundering policy, and represents Ireland at the IMF, Financial Action Task Force. Assistant Secretary - Aidan Carrigan, Head of FSD is also the vice-chairman of the European Council’s Financial Services Committee, which sets the strategic direction for financial services policy in Europe. Ad-Hoc Working Group on European Deposit Insurance Scheme/Banking Union – FSD 2 attends the Ad-Hoc Working Group that is negotiating the Commission proposal for a mutualised deposit guarantee scheme for Banking Union members.
